A G4 OR GREATER geomagnetic storm watch has been issued for tomorrow 11/12 for an X5 flare that released a large and fast CME. We already have two CMEs in transit making this the third. We are DIVING into the paint!

I do not understand why phonics is apparently right-coded, but it's a time-tested method for learning to read.

Use phonics! And yes, have patience for those who cannot read properly.
ever since I learned about three-cueing I've developed infinitely more patience for replies on social media. mfers literally do not know how to read. people are walking around conjuring random meanings into words they don't know, and they don't know a lot of words. it's crazy

A look at snow coverage compared to one, two, and three years ago. Coverage across Canada is better than last year especially in eastern Canada. Snow in the western US is once again lacking.

University of Nebraska announced yesterday a final budget plan which if approved by regents would result in elimination of its earth and atmospheric sciences program. I worry that this is a sign of a trend that could damage the academic meteorology sector of the US. More: tinyurl.com/53b5f5j7

The Kindergarten parents class chat is lighting up - because so many kids took home the wrong fleece jacket yesterday (including mine!).

No one has written a name in them and they are all similar uniforms, but different brands/sizes, and only parents see the differences.

First cold school day!

If you live in the exclusive Russian ski resort town of Krasnaya Polyana, you might soon have a new neighbor: Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko.

Here’s what we know about an elite new ‘hotel complex’ — and the money behind it.

As someone who rides all winter long, this is a really great thread! As Travis notes, everyone is different, but this gives a great overview of areas to focus on and potential clothing options.
In honor of my first <30ºF bike commute of the season, let's talk about how to stay warm in the 20s, 10s, and even 0s.

For years I biked for transit in Boston 9 months a year, pausing in winter – but one year I decided to just keep going. So can you!

Here are some tips 👇🏻, please share yours too!

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.

The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.

The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.

Why?

It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

WOW. This might be a first – a formal special marine warning for SNOWSPOUTS, or winter waterspouts.

These are the same as warm-season waterspouts, but they're forming beneath snow squalls.

It's because of the EXTREME contrast between the warm lake waters and frigid air above!

Not to keep thinking rationally about the dynamics at work here, but my impression from reporting was that the higher healthcare cost issue was already hitting escape velocity, right? Rs stonewalled long enough on this that higher rates on the exchanges/open enrollment was already being implemented?

Good morning East Tennessee! Snow reported on the ground at Monterey on I-40 already.

Actual accumulation expected between about 4 and 10pm for those elevations, and much more than that for the Smokeys.

A dusting is going to be possible in Knoxville and Kingsport in that timeframe!
