If I'm reading yesterday's space wind forecast correctly:

I believe the forecast really showed that peak aurora yesterday with huge plasma density spike. From yesterday's model, tonight's has higher wind/less plasma.

However new model run should be on it's way by around noon/early afternoon.

A Geomagnetic Storm Watch for Severe (G4) conditions is ongoing for tonight, which is what cause the aurora over most of the the U.S., Canada and Europe last night.

Strong (G3) conditions still continue at this hour.

I don't see any aurora in Chattanooga tonight. Maybe the faintest hint at pink at the right side here but probably my imagination.

Good morning East Tennessee! Snow reported on the ground at Monterey on I-40 already.

Actual accumulation expected between about 4 and 10pm for those elevations, and much more than that for the Smokeys.

A dusting is going to be possible in Knoxville and Kingsport in that timeframe!

My morning alarms get names when I wake up at a strange time of there is a specific task.

But often I don't change the names, I just enable them.

The control panel on my microwave has been on the fritz and I can only use a few numbers.

So after a couple of unsuccessful attempts to reset the clock for Standard Time, I have made it!

From local sub-Reddit - the rainbow was super bright in Red Bank.

Just look at the fainter colors coming out

It's been pouring rain all day in Chattanooga, but the standing wave we get from the mountains has produced enough sunshine for a faint double rainbow.

I've been thinking about this since retweeting - but also consider that the central mountains are 2000ft high.

The vertical compressing of the atmosphere will also reduce vorticity.

Upon approach, there will be vertical "stretching" which ramps short term vort.

Leaving it should "stretch" again

For the curious about Buxton, NC homes being swept away

The outline of Buxton shown on the map at left is where the land used to be. Lots of deposits south of point Hattaras, and lots of ocean coming in to the east side.

Red is the homes being swept away.

Barrier Islands are moving!

This was Treasure Beach Jamaica from 50 minutes ago to 20 minutes ago where inner bands are making their way in. So they still had power at that time.

Flatbridge north of Portmore is underwater.

But...the locals say that this is pretty normal. Built to be submerged.
