Years ago I recognized my kinship with all living beings, and I made up my mind that I was not one bit better than the meanest on earth.

— Counting how many times people say "Good morning" in the new Kathryn Bigelow movie with Kat. (I'd guess 30+?)

One of the major fruits of research is delight. Think of how often you’ve read about a discovery and really enjoyed it. Often the most pleasurable kind of news. Public delight isn’t discussed enough as one of the major outputs of funding research.
I strongly recommend everyone do research sometimes 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘧𝘶𝘯.

Look something up on Wikipedia. Go to the little citation. Follow it. Read the article it's referencing. Follow links to the original interview. Read the paper written by the interviewee

It genuinely makes you appreciate journalism

i grade for a course on internet culture that’s designed to be one of the first writing-heavy courses freshmen take. this is a D essay.
Pretty sure I could write a 10,000 word academic article just unpacking all the misdirections in this one paragraph.

Wrong about intelligence, wrong about tech development, wrong about the political economy of AI, etc.

These arguments should never have escaped discussion board containment.

This is one of the rare times where we really do need retired senior generals and admirals to speak out--Dempsey and Mullen should step up to articulate that these are illegal orders.
The JAGs have been fired, so we need for former leaders to tell us all.
"military officials may be getting directed to execute potentially illegal actions. Given this, how can we not hear from a top official who may have already concluded they’re being asked to carry out the unacceptable?"

Because I’ve seen what HOA meetings do to a man. The lawns are too green, the souls too soft. I speak like this because the spirit of war died in a cul-de-sac, and I was there to bury it—alone, beneath the flicker of a Ring doorbell camera.

Every time someone insists that being in the military explains having gotten Nazi tattoos, what I hear is that military service turns people into or attracts Nazis, so military service should be a disqualifier for elections.

You're really doing other veterans harm with this shit.

can we cut the man a break and just stop it with the nazis for a minute
