The 82 bus stop in front of the Home Depot on Kimball is ~440ft from the bus stop by Addison. There's no crosswalk there, so you have to walk up to Addison anyway if you want to cross safely. Remove it!

A reminder that cars aren’t a technology problem. They’re a geometry problem.
Waymo privatized another public street:

Chanel approaching 4th, San Francisco

Possibly queued for a Billie Eilish show at Chase Center ~half mile away.

The light rail train on 4th seen passing in front of this roboherd has more passenger capacity than all of them combined.

One hour of leaf blowing generates as much pollution as driving a car for over 1,000 miles!
A reminder that gas-powered leafblowers are nightmare devices that are bad for you, bad for your lawn, and very bad for the environment. They fume and scream and kill the world all so you can messily and ineffectively move leaves around, leaves which are generally supposed to stay where they fell.

I haven't owned a car in over a decade and I'm finding that the longer I go, the more anxiety I have about driving, or even being driven places. I'll take an occasional Lyft if I have to, but it makes me anxious.

The cost of time for transit in (some) metro areas is only because we built every damn thing to prioritize cars over transit, not because of some innate, natural law.
I am super-pro-public transit, and use it way more than the average American, but I live near a light rail station with very, very stable and predictable scheduling, and even then I would not use it for many things I use a car for because the cost of transit is time.
i wonder how much of Americans' views on driving vs. transit would change if they had to pay for gas/insurance/etc every time they turned on the engine

"i'm not paying $5 to take the train to work twice a day when i can just drive" is a genuine opinion held by so many people

Wait a sec! That’s not how you spell “necessary”!
I think it's time we all admit that the bagel is not the ideal vehicle for a breakfast sandwich. I love bagels, but buttery-ass biscuits or English muffins are vastly superior. Also cheese is entirely unnecessary on a breakfast sando
Instead of a drunk AMA I'm gonna get drunk and tell you stuff no one asked, don't tell me Americans don't innovate anymore

Chicago needs wider sidewalks because some of you walk real slow. And I’m not trying to freak you out, but I do need to pass you!

One more thing. When I wrote about this study showing one-third of Americans don't drive, people were messaging me saying this cannot be true for LA.

In LA County *23 percent* of the population is under 16. Kids are people! We must plan for their movement, just like all nondrivers. Hope that helps!
Highly recommend diving into NRDC's study on car access, which @keawilson.bsky.social wrote about here: usa.streetsblog.org/2025/10/02/report-16-million-have-no-car-access-at-all

Where Nadir was killed, 14% of LA households are car-free. But the infrastructure does not match that reality

I almost fell on my buns three times this morning walking four blocks to the coffee shop. Chicago, looking at you!
This is a small snow plow for sidewalks

If your city plows the roads but leaves sidewalks up to property owners, your city hates pedestrians.

Hold up. Sales tax on gas will go towards transit? Dreams come true??
The law is to generate $1.5 billion in new annually funding for the state’s transit systems through:
—Redirecting sales tax on gas from highway spending to transit
—Using interest earned on state roads fund for transit
—Enabling Chicago region to increase sales tax by 0.25% for transit

This reminds me of a situation that happened when I was in Seattle recently, heading to the airport on the light rails. Drunk guy gets on the train, he's kinda loud and obnoxious, but not bothering anyone. After a few minutes, a transit cop walks over and stands right next to him.
i think if you ride public transit enough you learn that most weird behavior is not dangerous, and conversely i think driving a car teaches you that everyone is trying to kill you at all times
