My fellow leftist AI skeptics would do better by moving on from dated arguments (tool calling has practically solved hallucinations since about two years ago) and move toward the current very real ones (coding agents make good enough things that your boss is going to work you to death)
Token Anxiety

i think i mostly echo this for myself. with so much that can be done, i often feel like i *should* be doing something, always

People are nervous about watching video, but this one is not of the murder, it's of the lead up, and people need to see it before the spin takes over.
Video before it happens is showing this guy they shot in the head in Minneapolis was just standing there videoing them before and they got out to push him back and then murder him.

I’ve been working on a daily web game for the last few months, and I just published it: setfury.com!

The goal is to find sets of 3 to 5 tiles. For the best score, go for those 5-tile sets! Everyone gets the same game board each day, so you can share and compare your score with your friends.
Set Fury - A daily game of set recognition and high scores
Scour for hidden sets to gain points. Check back each day for a new puzzle!

An astonishing percentage of Americans are open to car-free living.

The problem isn't attitudes. The problem is the failure to invest in viable options.

Many Americans Are Open to Car-Free Living — Human Transit
Is Americans a “car culture” or are they “car dependent”?  Do they drive because they love driving, or are they in an unhealthy relationship with a substance it would be happy to do without?  Obviousl...

The point of my statement is that congestion pricing was successful (and being popular is a big component to success in policy) because it was implemented where there’s already viable alternatives in place but yeah sure accuse me of not having imagination or whatever
I find "America isn't really set up for it" to be an annoying rebuttal to any sort of proposal to reduce car dependency. Our leaders used policy to create a system of car dependency and we can sure as hell use policy to undo that. There are absolutely barriers, but do nothing is not a solution.

NYC is the only place in the country where more than half of households don't own a car. People take transit in NYC not because they're all transit nerds, but because it's more convenient. That was true before congestion pricing in Manhattan.

Reducing car dependency is enacting a right to travel by means other than a car. It's the opposite of infringing on a right to travel. It's giving people more options. This is good for everyone, but specifically it's good for drivers because it means fewer other cars on the road.
You didn't say that in as many words. I admit misinterpreting because I'm toggling to a different "fuck rural America" tab of skeets. However, you are talking about "reducing car dependency", which will inevitably infringe on the right to travel. Congestion pricing on public roads is exactly that.

No they didn’t. It’s Christmas, they’re inside with their family/friends, and all the stores are closed.

The point I wish got emphasized more is that the big winners from congestion pricing are *people who urgently need to drive*. Because they are ones that travel times really matter for. I always thought that instead of congestion pricing it should be called "free streets" - free from other cars.
this is incredible stuff. most state DOTs would spend tens of billions on highway expansions to try and see numbers like this (that wouldn’t even pan out anyway thanks to induced demand lol)

Protecting the prairie means a stop to sprawl, which also means sustainable growth needs to come from the areas we’ve already built out: infill and density.

And making the urban core *more* auto-dependent blows a hole in the simple geometry of making more space for more people.
