The Home Secretary has several times said she thinks levels of net migration remain quite high + are comparatively high

This is mainly a vibe.

There are a few factual mistakes/over-spins in her explanation of why she thinks this but many journalists + MPs may not quite notice those.

Oh I’ve had an idea, set up an advisory board for design, architecture and aesthetics but with only one member:

HM King Charles III
I love the Palace more than most, I think it’s an absolute masterpiece.

But if we could build a new, beautiful, functional parliament we should do that. Problem is I’m not sure this country could ever agree on a proper design or location
Basically Westminster will have to shut for a century

the current building is not fit for purpose, I would even go as so far to move the whole Parliament into a new, purpose-built building, the second-best solution is to fix the current one

I'm sorry that democracy costs money.

When I was a lowly work experience kid at Sky News in 2018 Jon Craig, Jayne Secker and @breeallegretti.bsky.social were a delight to me.

Adam Boulton…. a bit less so
You also really remember the people who were absolutely lovely and attentive. Among the slightly random list of people who stood out as extremely nice were Vanessa and Corin Redgrave, and (comedian) Rob Newman. I still think fondly of them all.

It’s time to ban social media for the over-60s, restrict their screen-time and implement upper-limit age verification.
This was a minor story on London news this morning - but suspect is a real cautionary (and alarming) tale of an older man getting radicalised online.

Just out of this extraordinary production of my favourite play. Bryan Cranston, Paapa Essiedu and Marianne Jean-Baptiste are absolutely *extraordinary* and I will need at least a week to emotionally recover

Quite glad that the big story in British politics is whether Andy Burnham will apply to stand in a by-election and not people being gunned down by state militias.

Solidarity with Minnesotans resisting this barbarity.

The Trump lawsuit has rendered the BBC utterly spineless. Another victim of bullying and lawfare.
The BBC coverage is absolutely terrible.

It leads on "sharply contested narratives"

It has a dramatic skew to the US government

It has posted the video but has failed to report on what it shows: it shows the US govt account is untrue

EXC: Zack Polanski tells us Britain should consider closing US military bases, leave Nato and denuclearise, as he begins to flesh out the Greens’ foreign policy.

Also spells out to @pippacrerar.bsky.social and me his red lines in any coalition talks to come.

This is something I love about South African media. Every presenter, regardless of race, getting names like Gqberha or Hluhuwe or Qonce bang on
There should be mandatory training/classes for all radio presenters on how to pronounce the most well known Welsh place names

I’m not expecting any of ‘em to be able to roll out the full llanfair pg but stumbling over Llandudno or Llangollen in the year of 2026 should be a sackable offence

We were deriding you because you are patently unwilling to fund a viable alternative to consensual US hegemony in democratic Europe. You’d get to preen if you’d been calling for massive defence spending hikes, an independent nuclear deterrent, minimising out-of-home-theatre commitments and so on.
When we said NATO wasn't working we were derided.

When we said a nuclear weapons system relying on the US is dangerous we were called stupid.

The truth is the establishment are more interested in kissing US feet than keeping the UK safe.

It's time for a rethink.

It continues to be a bad failure that essentially there's a policy debate that is obvious to you if you read a business newspaper OR the gov dot uk website or the MI5 threat update OR a decent policy Substack is basically invisible on the BBC and in 90 per cent of Commons debates.
Maybe we can, oh I dunno, start to have a conversation with voters about this? The problem is not going to go away.
The way politics is being conducted by both the tories and Labour seems surreal to me. We have a lunatic in the WH who simply cannot be relied on to be an ally, indeed the opposite, we need to spend a ton of cash on defence and no-one seems to think voters might need to be, er, readied for all this

Glad this campaign is being picked up again - MP's staff operate in this weird nothing land of not being civil servants or employed by Parliament, so progression & opportunities available to them is cut off to us.

Instead we are entirely dependent on our bosses. Ok for some, v bad for others.
Today the GMB Members’ Staff branch launched One Parliament, One Employer

We’re calling for a single, accountable employer for MPs’ staff to deliver fairness, consistency & proper protections. The current system leaves staff with unequal pay and conditions and places unnecessary pressure on MPs.
