The U.S. government is always fearful
when white people get involved in or, even worse, are killed during the fight for social justice and civil rights, especially white mothers and clergy. They know optics always change. Look at Andrew Goodman, Michael Schwerner, Viola Liuzzo, James Reeb, etc. /1

The execution of Alex Pretti is playing so badly because you can look at his actions and life story - his last act was helping, boy scout, athlete, health care worker to veterans - and compare those to the men who killed him and know which you would want to be your son, brother, father, uncle.

I'm gonna add to this that the Dems had ZERO to do with the Bovino firing. It was the tireless work of the good people of MSP standing strong, filming and writing the news with their first hand accounts. The press tried to both sides it. They WANTED to. But the citizens of Minnesota ended this guy
The more I think about it, the more I’m convinced the Democrats have to push their hand immediately. The parallels with the delays and subsequent failures after January 6th are blaring warning signs about what will happen if they don’t go after the issues with ICE and CBP at the root RIGHT NOW.

it is both true that firing bovino doesn’t change a whole lot in terms of policy and also true that they have put a lot of money, time and effort into trying to make him the “never back down, fuck you, we own this place” face of the operation, and unceremoniously kicking him to the curb is a retreat

Mamdani is so, so good at this. By which I don’t mean “at politics “, though he is, but at using his office to make people’s lives better while reminding them what government can be.
"The number of downloads...surged by 529% after Mr. Mamdani’s news conference"

"there had been 3,000 people on a waiting list to access a limited number of e-book copies"

"2,000 people applied for a library card over the weekend, roughly twice as many as had applied by this time last year"

A win!

In case anyone forgot, this administration had already prohibited public funding of mRNA vaccine research. Moderna was one of the single biggest private funders of mRNA vaccine research. This will set us back decades.

I personally don't tell people who have been fighting their hearts out daily for weeks not to celebrate wins of any size. I certainly don't do that when I've been nowhere near the place where the fight has been happening and have done little more than make some donations from miles away.

somehow the black working class, the lgbt working class, the jewish working class didn't fall for this. methinks the white working class is more vulnerable to demagogues and right-wing populists.
the thing about white liberal Americans is that they'll argue to accept bigots into their tent before accepting the bigots' targets.

the targets that have been on the same side as white liberals from the jump.

I see that Iranians are getting acquainted with the segment of the western left that believes that only massacres committed by US allies are bad.

The way they're gaslighting victims while criticizing those who were doing the same elsewhere...Exactly the same as their right-winger counterparts.

Lets be crystal clear about this.

If white people were sorry about Trump, they would get him the fuck up out of here instead of liking our posts and going right back to work the next day like nothing happened.

They don‘t give a fuck.

I remain absolutely furious that all this shit in Minneapolis started because a barely-literate homeschooled mormon made a video trying to run up in daycare centers trying to find people of Somalian descent doing fraud despite the ringleader (a white woman) being in jail since March. Demonic.

There has probably not been an easier time over the last few years for politicians to express/support liberal and progressive viewpoints and ideas. Many policies have overwhelming public support, not just from Democrats. So, if your representatives are hesitating now, they will likely never do it.
