Awful day for music fans. If you aren’t familiar with Todd Snider, I don’t blame you. He was a giant in a genre of music that barely exists anymore - but I can count on one hand the artists who wrote more great songs this century than he did.

A dozen to choose from. I’ll share a few of my favs.

Visited the Museum of History in Gatineau yesterday and saw this new piece - their residential school memorial - and it’s really striking.

Probably the most fun you can have reading a law story. The final line is *perfect*.
EXCLUSIVE: One Saturday afternoon in October, my phone lit up with a notification.

I glanced down at the message.

“Anna, Lindsey Halligan here,” it began.

So began my text exchange with the woman who is prosecuting the president's perceived political enemies.

Thanks to @slate.com for letting me explain (on publication day for Taylor's Version!) why "All Too Well (10 Minute Version)" is the best thing ever (and connects up both to #MeToo and to John Keats): slate.com/culture/2025...
I’m a Poet. I Believe That This Song Is Taylor Swift’s Masterpiece. I’ll Explain Why.
There’s a reason my students always vote for this one when I ask for Taylor’s most Taylor-ish song.

This is a very good piece on Showgirl and its fallout, and I didn't know about the viral tweet that inspired "Wood" -- knowing that exists really changes how I think about it www.newyorker.com/culture/crit...
Do We Still Like Taylor Swift When She’s Happy?
The weak lyricism in the Travis Kelce-inspired songs on “The Life of a Showgirl” has led to some of the most virulent and sexist anti-Swift discourse in years.

Drew a turtle in grade nine.
One of my favorite fun facts is why the TMNT are named after artists (it’s because the type of turtle they are is a “painted turtle”). I told my nephew about this and he immediately replied that there should be a Bob Ross turtle. So rather than explain the renaissance movement to him, I-

I like this guy, but don't call anything Coast Salish "Canadian". The Cowichan, for instance, have territory that extends into what's now the US. The Coast Salish as a whole are split almost perfectly in half by the US-Canada border - and have close ties between reserves on both sides. 1
