Also this is not a good outcome for the Kent stations (Ebbsfleet, Ashford) as Virgin is not keen on those

It's not good for prospects to run London to Germany and Switzerland (as Virgin's trains will not have 15kV)

North Devon's urbanised coast has a population of over 125000 people. Bideford-Barnstaple-Braunton has a population of 90000 plus. And that's before factoring in the huge tourist surges through summer.

Its road network cannot and will never cope.

Not a hope in hell Branson runs a Manchester-Paris

The new Alstom trains for the Tunnel Virgin plans to order are continental European loading gauge, not UK, so can’t run anywhere beyond HS1 in the UK

So forget it

This is 💩

The Telegraph has been shitposting HS2 twice/thrice-weekly for almost a decade, and have been absolutely instrumental in getting so much of this critical infrastructure axed. Now they’re complaining it’s not going to be as useful, and noticing we’ll still have the issues it was set to solve.

“Trains would need to run via the crowded West Coast Main Line…”

The WCML is crowded is it?

We should build a bypass taking some intercity trains off that crowded line so it’s less crowded.

Why aren’t we doing that The Telegraph. 🙃

The claim that "Pacers saved rural railway lines" seems not to have fully died a death yet. It's completely ahistoric on several fronts:

1. Pacers were never deployed on rural railway lines.
2. They cost more to buy and operate than Sprinters.
3. Several lines were closed during their tenure.

Saving lives, saving you money, improving the flow of traffic, there’s no downside to switching to 20mph default limit.
It would be great if we could take a whole country and change the default speed limit to 20mph and then compare it to one left at 30mph. What if it reduced casualties by 25% and with lower risk reduced insurance premiums by £45 a year? Well it did! bit.ly/4gIBPlJ

Let's call a spade a spade.

A "flying electric taxi" is essentially a private jet.

The last thing we need more of - electric or not.

Flying is hugely energy intensive.

Let's get East West Rail built and trains running asap instead.
#TrainsNotPlanes
Flying electric taxis will be travelling between Oxford and Cambridge next year. A six-month pilot project (geddit) aims to prepare the infrastructure and develop a business case as a first step towards “commercially viable regional operations”.
