Today is hopefully the last day of two straight weeks spraying Japanese Knotweed on the River Roding. There’s more than twice as much as was originally mapped, but we’re going hard to rescue this tidal marsh from being swallowed whole by the invasive menace. Hot. Wet. Smelly. @protect.earth

Oh, I love this. A new species of sea anemone was discovered recently that parks itself on top of a hermit crab shell like a hat. It seems to feed partly off the crab's faeces, but it also excretes a hard shell that extends the crab's home. In return, it's carried around the seafloor like a king.

The ”upgrade” to junction 11 on the M5 is going to cost £363mn
(fuck knows where the money goes) and is going ahead

Reopening the Stonehouse station on the Birmingham / Bristol line would cost around £25mn but trying to get it funded is impossible

Looks like the "removal of statues etc is erasing history" folks are actually into doing those removals if the history being erased is the history of black people
Here are the two plaques that were removed. I am so ashamed of our racist current administration.

Tories scrapped half of HS2, which without the other half would actually make many train times worse.

People said “why don’t you focus on electrification of existing lines then” so now Labour, eager to proven they’re different from Tories, have scrapped all of that too.
Govt scraps all electrification investment. Midland Main Line to stay forever diesel Leicester Nottingham Derby Sheffield. Hugely embarrassing and inexplicable

Fifteen minute queue at service station Greggs.

Wonder how many of these drivers say they don’t have time to charge an EV.

Got a short film trying to be shot in an ancient woodland I manage. They’re all about trying to be respectful and low impact. It’s Cornish cultural stuff not big money shite (me/charity get nothing).

Tell me how to proceed.

Set boundaries, manage expectation, oversight, big stick in case, but yes?

First time I took a bike onto a ferry I panicked and waited for the lovely seamen to help, but if you wanna have a say in how your bike gets tied up to survive stormy seas then here’s how I do it. Don’t forget to pat it and say “that’s not going anywhere” to ensure success.

Love the swoletariat. The right think they own being tough because they jump to violence the second they run out of steam in an argument, which is usually about one follow-up question in. Fighting fascism will require some actual fighting, so there’s no better time to get hench.
Strength training is political. We have a right-wing which has taken over physical fitness spaces, and hijacked “warrior culture”.

We need a muscular progressivist visions. We need to be strong to build the world we want.

Building my guns for the revolution. 💪🏾✊🏾 #Swoletariat #ResistanceTraining

I met somebody in Amsterdam who flew there from Germany.

What a fuckin baby. 🤣

It’s always the Americans, especially the libertarians. Big tough independent guy needs sky daddy captain to pamper him door to door in case he bumps into a POOR out in the real world, climate be damned.

NY Times can’t even get “up” and “down” right.
The claim that “emissions have come down” in this @nytimes.com @sominisengupta.bsky.social article on where we are ten years post-Paris is FALSE.

Global emissions were at an all-time high in 2024.

As it stands this claim is misinformation. They need to issue a correction!

I’ve been wondering about bramble translocation to speed up woodland succession on dense monoculture grassland. Great to see it’s already a thing.

If anyone is clearing bramble near Bath this winter I need a few tonnes please. 🤣
Every Autumn we host a visit from the University of Cumbria Outdoor Adventure & Environment students. It's a highly experiental course, so as we tour the site, we include practical tasks such as bramble translocation & planting some wildflowers. @leedsleaf.bsky.social

My lot have been on holiday for a month now doing four day week? No update til Monday. 😭

Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

This is deeply disappointing from Starmer.

The UK *helped design* this 'TFFF' fund, designed to stop deforestation, and supposedly 'continues to back the fund' (in theory). But now isn't putting any money into it 🤯

How embarrassing for the UK.

European countries want Brazil to increase forest conservation (it certainly can). But some of the world's best opportunities to spare & restore carbon in native forests—while displacing the least food production—actually lie in Europe. Our analysis shows this: www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...
