#NoCo #Colorado has changed a LOT since I was a kid.

The red in the animation below shows development (as identified by satellite imagery) between 1985 and 2024.

I'm working on some analysis of the political implications of all this development. Sign up for more: www.co-political-landscape.org

I've been playing around with some data for a new post coming in the first part of the New Year.

The animation below shows how the Front Range in Northern Colorado has changed over the past 40 years in terms of development intensity.

Doing some pre-New Year organizing and came across this bad boy.

For the zoomers, this is how we hooked up our discmans to our car stereos through the tape deck.

I feel like we've graduated from "unseasonably" to "distressingly" warm in Colorado this Christmas.

The @ifbookspod.bsky.social guys did a good breakdown of the many problems with this book

open.spotify.com/episode/1YsX...
A small (personal) example of this book’s intellectual dishonesty:

My father-in-law is reading In Covid’s Wake, and excitedly told me he found a passage where I’m quoted. The quote in question is me saying the FBI worked to censor speech on social media.

Huh? When did I say that?!

I've not read many comics or graphic novels, but I could not put down @charlessoule.bsky.social and @ryanbrowne.bsky.social 's Eight Billion Genies.

Really beautiful work. Check it out if you like speculative fiction on a grand scale.

New post up on racial and ethnic diversity in Colorado and political outcomes: www.co-political-landscape.org/racial-and-e...

Colorado stands out in a few ways...
Racial and ethnic diversity in Colorado
In my last post, I looked at the ways in which politics in the United States has come oriented around education. This post will take a related approach to look at race and ethnicity within Colorado. U...

One thing that I'm still trying to understand about the "diploma divide" (the correlation between state education and state-level politics) is what the mechanism might be.

It is easy to assume that it is driven by college grads being more likely to vote for Dems, but ...

In my latest post (www.co-political-landscape.org/the-diploma-...), I try to unpack this.

Interestingly, the diploma divide holds up within counties in Colorado, but it seems to break down when we look at more granular geographic divisions (check out the post for more).
The diploma divide: Nationally and within Colorado
This post walks through one of the most significant changes in American politics over the past 50 years: the reorientation of politics across educational lines. I trace how this trend has evolved nati...

A short 🧵 on the diploma divide in the U.S.:

I know others have identified this trend, but this is amazing to me.

In 1980, knowing the share of a state's population that were college grads would tell you nothing about presidential vote. Today it is one of the strongest predictors.

For 80 of the last 100 years, Colorado was a pretty reliably Republican state, that all changed in 2008. In the last 5 presidential elections, Colorado has voted Democratic.
