This is so obviously true that I tire of every argument organized around classism in US society. If the “economic arguments” were legitimate, they’d apply more powerfully to Black people than anyone else. And yet…
It's strange how W.E.B. Du Bois's Black Reconstruction gets read by some as a Marxist book. It informed his thinking and teaching but Du Bois said that sociologically, Marxism didn't apply to the United States as much as it would to other countries because of how racism resulted in two proletariats.

In the New Statesman this morning, I tackle an odd subgenre of Epstein coverage that's become more and more prevalent: breathless warnings that we're on a slippery slope to mob rule when we ask awkward questions of the world's most powerful people.

I’m sure this dude is fine. He does have a Nazi tattoo. And says women whine about sexual assault in the military. And that black people are stupid. But gosh darn it he says he’s a progressive, and since he’s white and male, who can really say what’s in a person’s heart.
Platner's dismissive comments about sexual assault in the military were so disgusting that a candidate who had experienced assault in the service dropped out to endorse Mills rather than risk Platner getting into the senate. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/progressiv...

They are places I haven't been, languages I don't speak, foods I haven't tried, books I haven't read, and people I haven't met. I wake up every day excited to learn about the world and the things in it. What separates me (and us!) from the gutter racists is that we see existence as joyful.

". . . secure to persons of color the enjoyment of their constitutional & legal rights." - @michaelharriot.bsky.social

THIS is the history that right is censoring. Why? Because it helps ALL students learn that they can defend justice, question everything, & think critically about real solidarity.

My mother was 18 when Black women were able to vote openly. 23 when Roe v. Wade passed. 24 when women were allowed bank accounts in their own names

I was 29 when I lost my right to an abortion. I am 33 & about to lose my right to vote

A pox on every Trump supporter. Hell ain’t hot enough for you.

Azdoufal, demon lord of roombas
“When his homegrown remote control app started talking to DJI’s servers, it wasn’t just one vacuum cleaner that replied. Roughly 7,000 of them, all around the world, began treating Azdoufal like their boss.”
The DJI Romo robovac had security so poor, this man remotely accessed thousands of them
DJI may have fixed it now.

DHS has lied to me often enough in unambiguous ways that I only record their responses for whatever future tribunal follows this insanity.
Update: DHS sent a statement denying that medicine was withheld from Amalia after her return to detention.

But her lawyer says there’s no evidence in Dilley’s records that the girl’s prescription was ever administered, “which is consistent with her parents' accounts.”
NEW: A baby held in immigration detention became so sick, she had to be rushed to a hospital in severe respiratory distress.

“She was at the brink of dying,” a lawyer told me.

But the girl didn’t go home after her 10-day hospital stay; instead, ICE put her and her mother back in lock up at Dilley.

North Carolina lawmakers have voted to remove all college campus voting sites. Specifically at the largest HBCU in the US NC A&T. They now have to walk 30 minutes to their nearest polling place. Students are protesting this - pls share and support.

Bluesky has a copy of Eslam's passport but won't let her on the site. What is the motivation for that?

Help her family btw: chuffed.org/project/1282...
Plus they harass Palestinians for IDs (and then still ban them) so they’ve seen god knows how many passports that clearly say place of birth

I was just thinking about this. If Bsky is blanket geo-IP banning everyone from Gaza, as proven by this Gazan journalist:

1.) This disproves the theory that these are Cambodian scammers

2.) Bsky knows these accounts are authentically in Gaza - but bans them anyway.

Hm.
this is willful, blatant bigotry. you can't even claim this is in the interest of countering scams, because they're equating being in Gaza with being a spam bot
palestinian journalist posting on twitter that his bluesky account was immediately taken down purely because he was in gaza. all palestinian accounts are assumed to be spam.

“what cool shit can I do as Mayor? oh, I can marry people? awesome, let’s do it”

once again the constant theme of “New York is great, New Yorkers are great, isn’t this great?” comes through
Everyone in the world comes to get married at the NYC Marriage Bureau. Last week, the Mayor stopped by to officiate a few of those ceremonies.

Thank you to all the couples who shared their joy with us. Happy Valentine's Day, New York.

a certain kind of man can’t calculate the ‘invisible labor’ women put into things - look at the guys calling the MN people successfully organizing everyday life for at-risk neighbors suspicious

that sort of man doesn’t even acknowledge it as work, just ‘the way things are’ and acknowledges no debt

this is why i am laser-focused on paying rent for people right now.

the second a family is evicted, the costs of everything explode. lives are disrupted, new schools have to be found, people are in physical danger, and then they are so much harder to rehouse with an eviction on their record.
so many families are in awful positions because ICE’s bullshit has collapsed the already fragile social safety net.

this family is living in their van in minnesota in winter. they’ve applied for help at over a dozen orgs and are still unhoused. with babies.
