ANCIENT REPTILIAN BRAIN - It's the *world*, Harry-boy. And you're *made* of it. Every day you're out there you make more of yourself from it. I'm afraid you can't be *unmade* now.

The reactionary centrist logic is simple: if the left does something bad it’s the left’s fault, and if the right does something bad, it’s also the left’s fault for making them do it. It’s a simple formula and once you see it every one of their arguments is the same

Not to pull punches on the general political culture at the BBC, but the Moral Maze is unusually reactionary.
WTF are we doing here, BBC?

America's richest 10% now hold 60% of the nation's wealth.

The bottom half of America? It holds just 6%.

Wealth inequality is eating this country alive.

This is insane. Brooks says everyone is too blinded by ideology to see the truth of what the video shows. Then the host asks him what it shows and he refuses to answer.

“Left and right are equally to blame for everything all the time” is also an ideology!

Starting to feel like it's an explicit job requirement for political pundits not to admit the most consequential trend in American politics of the last 40 years.
Thank you TCW for this instant classic of Harper’s Letter sophistry, explaining that the categories "right" & "left" are unhelpful in understanding a campaign of kidnappings & assassinations undertaken by an ultra-right wing secret police force at the behest of an ultra-right wing political regime

I would normally have said yes: older cars were built to lesser safety standards. But for the newest cars that make you tap a touchscreen five times to turn on the fog lights, I don’t think that’s true any more.
Britain’s cars are older than ever — but is that a bad thing? — The Times and The Sunday Times
A prominent fixture in the town’s busy one-way system, the Dorking Service Centre has repaired cars for those living in and around the gateway to the Surrey Hills for more than two decades. Sid Swaine...

Ofc the Champions League just has a lot of brand prestige
Tbf the gap between WSL and NwSL average attendance isn’t huge but I suspect Arsenal are doing a lot of heavy lifting
It was not lost on me that for all of OL Lyonnes' superstars, their attendances are really small.

PSG's are even worse, and they play their league games at a 1,500-seat field in their practice facility.

This needs saying even as some English clubs draw big crowds:

Lindsey Heaps is a natural in the Champions League. But will other USWNT stars fit well in Europe?
It's a valid question, but so is a truth that Europe’s chattering class doesn’t like admitting. Very few European clubs are truly at a high enough level to be right for elite U.S. talent

From one cis person to another, can I plead with you to grasp just how bad Labour has become over trans issues. How they’re accelerating the Tory attack on trans people’s ability to live their lives.

And to listen to trans people. Don’t dismiss them as not knowing.

Just a reminder: propaganda works by pervasive repetition, not logical consistency
I think I’ve mentioned it before but discovering Jacques Ellul’s writing on propaganda as the creation of a totalizing information space where a message is reflected in all mediums and all forms to imply unassailability, as opposed to just “biased messages” was really what clicked for me

Particularly if you remember the astonishing levels of foaming at the mouth, gargling, heel-drumming and squawking whenever some left wing figure said things like e.g. “I don’t reckon firing a few missiles at Damascus is going to be much help to the suffering people of Syria, lads”.

You might think historically, had government ministers been enthusiastic members of groups and speakers at events “Labour Friends of The RSF”, “Labour Best Mates Of Rwanda” or “Labour Loves Greater Serbia”, then that might have incurred criticism or been problematic. Seems to be fine now, though.

You would think that e.g. very obviously assisting a genocide would be at least somewhat problematic but - like everything else here - that comes under the category “sucking up to the White House no matter how horrific it gets”, and is thus excellent.
