I honestly think the reason why we have trouble comprehending these statues is that we don't have a concept of how colorful the rest of the Greek and Roman world was around it. Our mental pictures of the time are informed by the ruins left behind and the (inaccurate) art of it created in later eras.
Two things I have a hard time accepting, even though I *know* they're true:
1. Feathers on dinosaurs.
2. The vividly painted reality of ancient Greek and Roman statues.
They just... they just look like something your gran would put next to the concrete bird bath.

If you aren't seeing skeets from some of your fave people, they might have been labeled "Rude" by bsky mods. Idk what they are thinking, I don't need a mommy to tell me who to be buddies with. Anyway, go into Settings > moderation > bluesky moderation (advanced) and turn Rude off.
