The bigger fight? Buddy, I die without health care and your pals in the Senate — none of whom will ever go without access to lifesaving medical care — told me they were gonna fight so my premiums don't go up 50%. And then they folded.
But there are real dangers out there that must be fought; and energy spent fighting each other is energy lost to that bigger fight.

Why do I have a bunch of comments calling Shapiro a “decent guy” on this lol
The NYT is still just furiously cranking that consent manufacturing machine but luckily for us they have undermined their credibility so much over the last several years that it’s just not working the way it’s supposed to!!

okay another small silver lining if gay marriage gets the chop is that we can make fun of straight people again by saying it’s homophobic for them to get married
Roe v. Wade wasn’t great at protecting abortion rights bc it was folded under right to privacy instead of full autonomy, and in the same vein folding gay rights into the institution of marriage threw aside more liberatory demands. The silver lining of fascist rollback is next time we can do better.

It’s kind of wild how far some people have lost the plot regarding gentrification when “anyone who moves to a city they weren’t born in” is a gentrifier who is therefore not worthy of the public services offered there. xenophobia disguised as woke!

Mandani also overwhelmingly won young white people, including men! His campaign clearly shows that if you laser focus on universal class issues, you do not need to compromise by throwing any marginalized demographic under the bus to win over some mythologized white male voter.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

Dick Cheney finally descending into the pits of hell the day a socialist Muslim ascends to the office of the mayor of New York City really feels like a portent of light in the darkness

Important to note that there are days that I definitely leave the house giving more of a they/them vibe despite by resolute she/her pronouns, and on those days I feel much less annoyed when I am themmed by some well meaning queer then I would feel otherwise lol
And btw I’m not even saying I only ever use she/her or he/him for strangers—in the circles I run in, people I don’t know often *do* give me a they/them vibe and so I gender them that way and I am usually correct 🤗

to be clear, when the person I screenshotted talks about a trans woman who “presents male” I assume they mean a closeted trans woman still choosing to present as a man, not a clocky trans woman for whom it’s very easy to pick up what she’s laying down and gender her correctly!
if a trans woman is out here in her Sunday best, showing you with all her strength and skills and learning that she is a proud trans woman, i could not give less of a fuck how "clocky" she is. how "presenting male" she is, whatever that means.

For no reason thinking about a person I thought was a cis guy with a reel joking about if all trans women were sent to prison, and I was like this is bad vibes bc of v-coding + you’re not a doll? Then ppl told me they were nonbinary and they chimed in to say they “were a doll” (???) to shut me down
I strongly believe it’s actually best practice to gender people based off of your best guess of what they’re going for! If you learn otherwise politely correct yourself, but if someone I don’t know reads to me as though they “present male” it’s default he/him because I’m polite.

I had a friend disinvited from his sibling's wedding because he was gay and it didn't align with their values. Heartbreaking but his response was beautiful. Reproduced below.

i’d 1000x rather get he/him’d once, make a gentle correction and move on rather than get they/them’d indefinitely because you clocked me and want me to know

*youth pastor voice* now kids, what do professional wrestling, BDSM, the Trump administration, and the crucifixion of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ have in common? well you see, on the seventh day while God rested He thought up a neat little thing called kayfabe—

Once again, we cannot wait for a savior. Build it cheap and build it together. Those are your options.
if there was a rich person with the will, you could build the most incredible news organization that has ever existed just from the wreckage of this year alone.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue today along with multiple other staffers, and today is my last day.

certainly more to come from me when the dust has settled more, but to my knowledge, after today, there will be no politics staffers at Teen Vogue.

The buyout / inevitable gutting of most of the media sites that weren’t already captured by imperial and corporate interests is part of a much bigger project—this is death by a thousand cuts so that we’re too overwhelmed to catalogue them all and too disassociated to organize as they keep coming
