America has a housing shortage. Every single housing proposal you see that is not "build more housing" will have the primary effect of pushing up the prices of existing housing, and is therefore, in reality, a plan to enrich current homeowners. In conclusion, build more housing.

I don't think people realize how quickly self-sorting is happening as the middle evaporates.

You're either 100% behind the resistance or you're a fascist collaborator.
We are so far past the Rubicon that it isn't worth having a discussion anymore as to whether Trump is acting as an authoritarian. The only question is whether we have the strength and courage to get back to the other side.

Somewhere along the way our political coverage became so obsessed with "neutrality" that calling a monstrous policy the monstrosity that it is became a bigger no-no than the monstrous policy itself. Pointing out the cartoon villain levels of racism is more verboten than the racism itself.

We are ten years into this. Troops are on the streets of an American city brutalizing people. It is time to stop responding to Trump's most authoritarian ambitions with "well he can't do that."

Senate Democrats absolutely have to shut the govt down to stop this ICE insanity in the Twin Cities. This is not sustainable & cannot be normalized. Any Democratic vote to provide money to the thugs who are brutalizing this community is a grave betrayal to the people here. Accountability can't wait.

and after they're dead and gone how do you fix a country that's been gutted for decades?

this is not the road you want to take, you better wake up

I dont intend to overstate this, but What the Fuck?!
A few months ago, ICE hired me

I didn't sign and submit any paperwork. I almost certainly failed the drug test. I'm real outspoken about my opposition to the Trump administration, and I am extremely googlable

And yet, there it was, in plain English. "Welcome to ICE!"

My latest for Slate
You’ve Heard About Who ICE Is Recruiting. The Truth Is Far Worse. I’m the Proof.
What happens when you do minimal screening before hiring agents, arming them, and sending them into the streets? We're all finding out.

America is now at the heavily armed secret police doing warrantless door-to-door house raids in search of undesirable ethnicities and/or political dissenters stage. The difference from well known historical cases is down to scale.
A video of ICE agents conducting door-to-door searches today in Minneapolis

The homeowner requests a warrant repeatedly, is told they don't require one, then is told they're getting it, then the agents storm in anyway

They also point a taser at her to try and disrupt filming

I watched his last podcast thinking he might reflect on life, his art, his family, but no.

The first 10 minutes was other people bragging for him (he could barely speak) about how he knew Trump would in win 2016. I turned it off.

THAT was his deathbed convo. The most depressing shit imaginable.

An Anderson Cooper investigation of Trump’s acceptance of white S. African refugees, which is “guaranteed to provoke Trump and inflame his MAGA base.”

The hardest part is accepting that this damage is permanent. The sense of shared community is broken, maybe beyond repair in our lifetime. People we spent years rejecting have power, & the resentment they’re unleashing is changing us all. I’m having a hard time with that. I know I’m not alone.
