At this year’s Int’l Booker Prize ceremony, a white translator went on a rant TO MY FACE about how translators should translate into their first languages only and I was genuinely flabbergasted because I was like… Do you know whom you’re speaking to???
this publisher asked if the translator was born in Canada and if they're a Canadian citizen, and asked the translator to SPLIT fees with a translator who is a "native speaker"

Sure Halloween has lots of ghost stories, but do any of them involve THREE ghosts? I think not

Still looking for someone, haven't found a single person so far (that I can contact). I have a 46-episode script that I need translated. This would be a paid job!
Completely unrelated to my 2am doomposting but does anyone know an English to Japanese translator, ideally with experience in screenplays?

Annual reminder that without literary translators, most Nobel Prize-winning authors couldn’t be read by the committee/readers, so celebrate them too. Congrats @ottiliemulzet.bsky.social et al! This isn’t taking away from the author, it’s adding recognition of the miracle/labour/skill of translation.

And also? I’m reminding global majority translators: protect yr time, yr health, and yr energy as much as is possible.
