The Third Wheel is a new literary magazine, whose mission is to create a dedicated space for literary translators, and to illuminate the art of translation: the invisible struggles, creative battles, and quiet triumphs that shape every text.

I don't know how many times it needs to be said that you absolutely should not let fucking "AI" anywhere near your legal contracts, either in creating them or evaluating them, but apparently it needs to be said at least one more time, so allow me to say it again, here, right now

Imagine watching Sinatra, son of Dolly & Antonini born in Genoa & Sicily, respectively, and Martin, son of Gaetano & Angela, born in Montesilvano, Italy & Ohio respectively, (Angela to parents born in Monasterolo, Italy), and crusading against the value of children of immigrants to the U.S.

Readers and bookshops: please boycott any publisher that replaces literary translators with the non-reading, uncultured, lying, manipulative plagiarism regurgitator.
French publishing house Harlequin decided to use AI translation instead of human translations.

All their freelance translators (some of whom had been working with Harlequin for +30y!!!) were told they would no longer receive work from Harlequin

If you're a writer or translator, we want to hear from you! We're currently reviewing book-length prose and poetry submissions. We're interested in pretty much everything. The weirder it is, the more likely we are to publish it!

French & Francophone pals: book recommendations please.

I'm going to Paris for the weekend and I will allow myself to buy 1 book. I like fiction, particularly genre fiction, and I'd like something not too long, light-hearted, fun & ideally not translated into English.

Merci d'avance !

A reminder as we enter the holiday season:

You celebrate in whatever ways make you feel comfortable, loved, and bright through winter, even if that means not observing holidays in a traditional sense or at all. You protect you, darlings, and have a wonderful wintertime ❄️
There’s nothing normal about expecting family members to be in the same room when one has abused the other. This is abnormal. This is harmful. This is perpetuating more abusive patterns. When you elevate family traditions over protecting the abused, you are re-creating the abuse

“Part hallucinatory road trip, part feminist revenge fantasy: a wild, furious and mischievous novel…”

A Government of cowards.

Rather than tackle inequality - they've gone for pensioners, disabled people and now it's people fleeing war and persecution.

They can't get away with this.
