Dams have blocked salmon from making their traditional migration through the Columbia River Basin, so these First Nations are sharing fish eggs across the colonial border to help the salmon on their journey. From our friends at @indiginews.bsky.social: thenarwhal.ca/syilx-salmon...

This portal will be used by US intelligence and law enforcement for intelligence collection and to deliver 0-days to targets of interest. You can take that to the bank. I'd bet my mortal soul on it.

"free/cheap/non-toxic youth sports" feels like one of those skeleton keys that would have knock-on effects accidentally fix 100 unrelated things about America

or, you know, even if it didn't, at least a bunch of kids would be able to have fun playing sports

NBC ran a piece where Mary Carrillo went to Norway to find out why they're so good at the Winter Olympics and i was yelling BECAUSE IT'S COLD THERE

then she went to a little tiny ski jump for kids and was like "it's free, equipment is provided, & they don't emphasize results"

and i was like.

Half of our agricultural land is used for beef that provides 3% of our calories. Nobody likes it when I bang my spoon on my high chair about this but eventually we need to grapple with it.
80% of agricultural land is used for livestock (and textiles), yet this huge land use provides only 17% of our calories and 38% of our protein.

16% of the land used for crops provides 83% of our calories and 62% of our protein. It's past time we rethink what we eat.

Dear friends,
Psy-ops are now underway here on Bluesky. There’s a flood of “both parties are the same” and “Dems are beholden to their donors alone” and “Dems are in Israel’s pocket” bots that have dramatically increased.

Report, block, do NOT engage. It just amplifies their messaging.

Je’Vion Benham had so much more life to live. On Christmas Eve, his mother drove from Iowa to Georgia after being told her 21-year-old son had died in prison custody, only to be met with a body so badly decomposed she could barely recognize him. No mother should endure that pain!

Women of a certain age in certain states, I’m just going to remind you that you can get hormones. Estrogen. Testosterone. All used to treat menopause. Via the internet.

And there are trans folks losing gender affirming care.

These two things are just coincidentally contained in the same post.

I don't like this at all.
In the 1800s, a slave owner purchased over a dozen people in Georgia and set the foundation for his family’s generational wealth

Generations later, a railroad company owned by one of his descendants is using eminent domain to seize land of Black farmers
Georgia Is Letting a Railroad Seize Land a Black Family Has Owned For 100 Years
Descendants of enslaved people are fighting an attempt to use eminent domain to carve a spur through one of Georgia’s largest Black‑owned farms.

I regularly see people wondering how it's possible that there are so many musicians and writers and film makers and artists from a tiny nation like Iceland.

And the answer is really simple: State funding for art education and artists. I literally get a salary from the government to write books.
I’m constantly astounded at the sheer level of artistic production coming out of Iceland. Novels, movies, music. Amazing.
