Great podcast – all journalists, hyperfocussed on the questionable way in which The Machines whirr round our lives. Their journalism doesn't try to be 'the paper of record' for life itself, they're just giving hard stares to their area of expertise, and that includes taking a bit of direct action:
guys, we're throwing a show!

404 Media is joining hands with community members and organizations to throw LA FIGHTS BACK, a benefit show to raise money to support immigrants and refugees as ICE and DHS continue their dehumanzing crackdown across the U.S.

A coverup - and not a thought for the bowl of petunias
It’s 12 November, so it’s time to mark the 55th anniversary of the exploding whale of Oregon, an attempt to clear a cetacean carcass from a beach which prompted one reporter to say “The blast blasted blubber beyond all believable bounds”

Mad... this is was what Batman was when I was a kid. Glorious too, and Adam West ead on TV in repeats - it was all wonderful. And at his darkest, my Batman was steeped in thought, not rage.

For John

My wonderful friend John died last Sunday, after a long illness. I couldn't be with him at the end as we lived in different countries but I did my best, as many others did too, to make sure he knew how much he was loved. Back in the summer I wrote an acrostic poem which I sent to him. He…

Looking at the Remembrance of the Daleks production file today I fascinated to see the BBC tried to clear music by The Smiths and Aztec Camera for the story. Obviously this music isn’t of the right period for the jukebox music so I can only assume it was to be played on Ace’s ghetto blaster.

Seeing '2001' at the pictures last Monday, it occurred to me for the first time that this space race-flavoured treatise on the evolution of humanity finishes up in much the same way as the book 'Flatland.' Both present the experience of being drawn upwards into a higher plane of being.

This is a good reminder that having sat at my desk to do something worthwhile, the socials sometimes just exacerbate the loneliness of being here. But as soon as I actually get stuck into whatever it is I sat down to do, I'm contentedly engaging with the details of the activity – and time flies.

So many subtleties sneak into the stench of evil. It was convenient to have black soldiers in the war effort but they didn't fit the national self image – so a lot of gazes got gently averted afterwards. People are always editing out the unusual. That's why a memorial was needed, and still is. #pol
1/ The US Government has quietly removed a memorial to Black soldiers who died in World War II from the Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, South Limburg. The move follows a complaint from the right-wing Heritage Foundation to the American Battle Monuments Commission. ⬇️
