Streaming in 2010: You can watch an entire catalog of amazing movies and TV shows for a reasonable monthly fee

Streaming in 2025: our library is Batman movies and 28 seasons of a Tim Allen sitcom, it costs $159/month. We just destroyed the last piece of evidence that Mister Rogers ever existed
Scoop: Warner Bros. Discovery has quietly pulled "The West Wing" from its Max streamer as part of a cost-cutting move following a ROI evaluation. Details in @status.news: link.status.news/3C72V5Z

I was vegan quite literally my entire life until last summer when I started eating chicken and fish for health reasons. I had my first drumstick a week ago and now all I can think of is drumsticks and how badly I want to eat 100 of them. It’s 1am and I’m up thinking abt chicken drumsticks

That a dude with a couple cameras and a plate of appetizers can make something worth $82.5 million and a media company looks at that and goes "couldn't we make even more money if we had AI do it?" tells you exactly how stupid these people are
The $82.5 million sale of "Hot Ones" studio First We Feast is part of a broader strategy at BuzzFeed to shift away from human editors, writers and content producers in favor of artificial intelligence, which result in "high-margin, tech-enabled revenue lines."
BuzzFeed sells "Hot Ones" studio for $82.5 million as it pursues more AI-driven content
The company said the sale will allow it to depend less on human-created content in favor of "high-margin, tech-enabled revenue lines."

and none of those pieces are being written by people who understand how that level of constant abuse CHANGES you

it’s not a mere tedious cleanup process, blocking today’s round of trolls just like sorting out the junk mail from the bills and birthday cards

it does not live on you that lightly
The thing that keeps getting me about all the pieces fretting about Bluesky being too insular is that the argument seems to be that those of us who are most likely to be abused by the right (BIPOC people, trans people, queer people, etc) must put up with being abused for the sake of public discourse

One thing I find interesting about the echo chamber complaint is that an echo chamber just won a presidential election.

Put aside the convo of whether it’s “good” or “bad” for a moment. The far right has devoted enormous resources + time to building echo chambers & loathes spaces they don’t control
The "bluesky is an echo chamber" think pieces that keep popping up really tickle me because they show how certain people genuinely believe social media should be for debating and arguing and not talking about the things that make you happy and sharing art with the world.

Bluesky is already quickly replacing Twitter as a place where I am finding stories I want to talk about on my show, or finding video clips that are worth reacting to, etc.

I’m impressed with how BlueSky is keeping up with 1M new users everyday with basically no issues. The Eng and Infra team must be top tier

In short, the right people are working on this, they're not out to build a Twitter clone, they're out to reshape the web, and help us return to the original promise of an open platform, a sense of ownership, and the ability to share with each other on our own terms.

I attended a meetup in Seattle and got to spend time with @bnewbold.net and @pfrazee.com from the Bluesky engineering team.

I walked away with an understanding of the role DIDs and PDSs play in the grand scheme of things, and why the most exciting work sits higher up the stack. I almost unretired.

There are currently only 22 films streaming on Netflix made before 1980 and not a single one made before 1960, with the oldest film on the platform currently being PSYCHO. I know I’m a broken record but: buy physical media, support your local library, etc etc
