Lmao as if the Dems aren't going to make these cuts permanent in some misguided attempt at winning over those imaginary centrist voters they've been chasing for 30 years
I've seen folks talk about how "in four years" they'll be able to get back to their planned projects and I really don't think that's going to work out. People & projects losing funding now will not be able to hit pause and come back once funding is restored. Hard-won progress & capacity will be lost
I worry that not enough of a big deal is being made about how long-term the devastation of these budget cuts to our scientific and health agencies will be, beyond the absolute ruin they will cause in the acute period.

I got banned from Twitter in 2022 and stayed off these sites until a couple months ago. Most of the people that are talked about on here are this way. Almost every Twitter person mentioned is a name I haven't heard since 2022. Not much that happens here actually matters, I'm afraid.
"The guy from the Onion is dating the YouTube congressional candidate" is a perfect Bluesky story because neither of these people are famous at all outside of this specific circle

A swing voter is not a centrist. It's like, a guy who loves guns but has a gay sister, loves weed but hates food stamps because his cousin who owes him 50 bucks gets them. (Also, Osama was Iraqi.) You don't win that guy with a carefully crafted platform, you do it by not seeming fucking lame
I really feel like more people need to constructively engage with this! You can think the moderation/centrism discourse is often braindead (as I do!) but the center left really needs a pretty robust convo about what winning, say, an Iowa or Kansas or Texas or Ohio senate seat would look like.
