not to freak anyone out or anything but I’ve been reading the Anatomy of Fascism by Robert Paxton and I think the concept of fascism as a model of government featuring a normative state and a prerogative state is potentially going to be useful for thinking about DOGE
Everyone should seriously read Anatomy, I cannot sufficiently stress the extent to which a pop-culture history channel "fascism is when you're a bad guy, politically" understanding of Fascism will not serve you in understanding the current moment

This sucks but I think non-Americans being justifiably angry at Americans for what the American government is doing and threatening to do, and Americans experiencing that anger and frustration personally in ways that are unpleasant, is probably an important part of any path back to stability
