Why is everyone so desperate to win over MAGA people? I don't get it. There are more than enough non-MAGA people in this country.

i haven’t checked on rents in there recently but as of a few months ago rent was still down 25% from peak.
Oakland built 10,000 units, rents dropped 25%, the value of the new apartment buildings dropped 50%, and some projects went bankrupt (were handed over to the lender, foreclosed, etc).

"Only billionaires should pay higher taxes" discourse is downstream from a general belief that policy change need not involve tradeoffs, and that the very existence of tradeoffs is an automatic dealbreaker. My run-ins with people who hold this view are what will finally cause my psychotic break.
