“Collection of Handwritten Letters from Children in Detention Center” sounds like an exhibit in the Holocaust Museum.
1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵

“When the Nats won the World Series in 2019, there were no fewer than seven professional outlets that covered the team on a regular basis. For the last few days, that number has been reduced to one: MLB.com.”

worth noting that the second rich people stopped being afraid of mobs tearing them limb from limb, they stopped building libraries and opera houses and stuff and started ripping the copper wiring out of the walls of society instead

Bezos isn't destroying the Washington Post because it isn't profitable. He's destroying the Washington Post because he's calculated that a robust free press threatens the ability of his class to warp society around their interests

My dad was so dedicated to WaPo, that he always had a stack of the print paper in his bedroom so that when he fell behind due to lack of time or his health, he could still carefully backread everything. I remember him proudly announcing whenever he'd caught up and could finally recycle the issues.

WaPo was my childhood paper. Reading it every morning, picking up a discarded section to read on the train, I kept subscribing when I moved away. It taught me to read the news, how to fold it to read one handed standing up. Fuck Jeff Bezos with a rake.

What's happening at the Post is just so fucking grim on so many levels, including, of course, for the professionals it's impacting (godspeed, Bailey et al) and the consumer. The enshitification of modern life continues unabated...
I was among the layoffs at The Washington Post today. It has been an absolute dream to be a small part of this incredible team. Covering the Caps has been an honor; being a beat writer is an all-consuming thing that I love deeply. I hope I’ll get to continue that in whatever is next

"Is this just another way of pandering to people, or do we actually care?"

kidnapping a 5 year old to bait his father and then shipping them thousands of miles away should put you in prison, yes, but it should also cause every friend and family member you have ever had to permanently reject you in disgrace, and if they don’t, they share your shame

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.
