After Justin Sourdif's fight in Ottawa, I said to someone with the Caps, "I didn't know he did that."
"He does everything. He's amazing!" they replied. Two games later, Sourdif had a five-point night. He's doing everything the Caps could ask — and more.

The Caps ‘needed to find a way.’ Then came Justin Sourdif’s hat trick.
The rookie forward’s five-point night, four assists from Connor McMichael and two goals from Alex Ovechkin boosted the Capitals to a 7-4 win over the Ducks.

Alex Ovechkin wanted in on the action. 5-1

A hat trick for Justin Sourdif. What a night. 4-1 Caps

Of course Ryan Leonard was going to score in this game. 3-1 Caps

Middleweight undercard, Duhaime and Trouba, set the table for the heavyweight bout of McIlrath and Johnston. Spirited scrap from both of them

Another two-goal game for Justin Sourdif, to flip this game from the Caps being down 1-0 to leading 2-1 by the end of the first period. It's almost like a player in the first 40 games of his NHL career isn't a finished product ...

Brandon Duhaime has dropped the gloves with Jacob Trouba. So much for no carryover from last game...

Aliaksei Protas (lower body) is not on the ice for warmups for the Caps. They don't have any extra healthy forwards, so appears they'll go 11/7 tonight against Anaheim
January 5, 2026 at 11:34 PM
Dylan McIlrath is set to draw in tonight against the Ducks. Spencer Carbery said he doesn’t expect any carryover from the Trouba hit on Ryan Leonard last month, and that he wouldn’t dress a player based on one play from a previous game. But nonetheless, McIlrath is coming in.

Tom Wilson (lower body) is day to day and won’t play today, Spencer Carbery said. Pretty safe to call that a bullet dodged for the Caps. Aliaksei Protas (lower body) skated this morning and is a game-time decision tonight
January 5, 2026 at 4:13 PM
Looks like Charlie Lindgren will start tonight for the Caps against Anaheim
January 5, 2026 at 3:48 PM
Tom Wilson (lower body) is getting evaluated further today and the Caps expect to have a better sense of his timeline tomorrow. Aliaksei Protas (lower body) is out day to day. Justin Sourdif and Jakob Chychrun have maintenance days today
January 4, 2026 at 4:04 PM
The Capitals will know more tomorrow on Tom Wilson’s status, but Spencer Carbery said it “doesn’t look too bad.”

Logan Thompson starts in goal for the Caps tonight against the Blackhawks. Justin Sourdif didn't skate this morning but Spencer Carbery said he should be okay to play tonight. Several other game-time decisions, per Carbery. It's that time of year, it seems

Dubois won’t be back before the Olympic break, Carbery said. Told us to start asking about his timeline for a return to play after that.
Pierre-Luc Dubois has resumed skating, Spencer Carbery said. Starting the progression back from the surgery he had in early November. His recovery timeline at the time was 3-4 months

4-3 Ottawa. Caps do a poor job off the rush, and Fabian Zetterlund flies into the zone to score
January 1, 2026 at 8:34 PM
3-3. Aliaksei Protas, off a feed from Justin Sourdif, ties this game with 4:07 left in the third. Just the Caps' second shot of the period
January 1, 2026 at 8:31 PM
3-2 Senators. Puck below the goal line comes to David Perron below the circle, and he's got plenty of space to line up a shot. Caps have collapsed after a very good first period
January 1, 2026 at 8:09 PM
2-2. Logan Thompson didn't realize the puck was underneath him and pushed it into the net with his own pad
January 1, 2026 at 7:44 PM
2-1. Old friend Nick Jensen gets the Senators on the board
January 1, 2026 at 7:21 PM
2-0 Capitals. Dylan Strome from the heart of the slot on the power play, one second too early to earn Caps fans McNuggets
January 1, 2026 at 6:46 PM
Aliaksei Protas is back on the ice

Justin Sourdif and Drake Batherson drop the gloves - the two fighters we all expected in this one, right? But a pretty spicy tilt, didn't know Sourdif had that in him
