If kids are allowed to express themselves too young, they might not end up growing up to be cisgender, and we think we might be able to pressure it out of them if we start early, goes the logic. We might be able to put them on the "correct natural trajectory" by inhibiting their preferred expression

Hilary Cass here arguing for children to be prevented from being known by a preferred name or getting a haircut in case it encourages them to continue later in life to transition.

Hilary Cass acts like gender variant children should have the transness hazed out of them.

the world order effectively letting the palestinian genocide occur with no real objections has effectively dropped the formalities around pretending to care about genocide in the post-ww2 era and so the 21st century will be marked by more genocides & attempts to depoliticize them

It just wouldn't occur to me to complain to Met Eireann if it rained when they said it wouldn't, like it's the weather - a moveable, changeable beast that can never really be fully predicted ahead of time.

#hobbystreak Day 2005: Did some wall filler then since it was being finicky I thinned it down a little and mixed in some black paint. The smaller mounds got mostly black paint and water at the end but I can add more texture in another pass. Want to build the mud up too to cover the lower layers

Larry the cat celebrates 15 years as the British government’s official rodent-catcher and unofficial first feline, a reassuring presence who has served under six prime ministers. Sometimes it seems like they have served under him.

In Northern Ireland, where the Equality Act does not apply, the DUP Education Minister has unilaterally banned trans kids in schoools and the UUP Health Minister has unilaterally stopped participation in the puberty blocker trials, both citing legal cases they can't be arsed waiting on.

Those in England who are just brushing past this because it's 'only' Northern Ireland would be well advised to pay more attention because the UK govt has used NI to get at trans people before and they will do it again.

Utterly extraordinary that Hilary Cass on the BBC this morning said if some young people had "taken more time" they might not have pursued medical treatments, when her own report last year found that children routinely faced multi-year waiting lists for gender services.

A less transphobic press might start asking "How does driving a doctor out of Scotland help cut NHS wait times? Why is Scotland better with fewer doctors? Which other minority staff would you get rid of?"
Every single person involved in this hate campaign and everyone who has supported them - Anas Sarwar, for example - needs to be run out of public life the way they've run Dr Upton out the NHS. Being trans isn't a risk factor for people around you; this obsessive hate absolutely is.
Susan Smith of For Women Scotland is quoted in this piece saying that Dr Upton leaving the NHS will be "a relief to female patients."

The employment tribunal found that Upton had done nothing wrong! She was completely innocent of any kind of harassment!

Interesting that there's no name attributed to this piece which speaks uncritically about the Cass review, a biased & unscientific piece of propaganda that resulted in the death of dozens of children.

What's the play here RTE? Stoke up a bit of transphobia in Ireland?
The expert who led the review into children's gender healthcare in the UK has said young people have been "weaponised" and misled about the realities of transitioning by social media.

treating the prominence of mormon influencers as entirely organic is journalistic malpractice. the church's interest in new media, the existence of several mailing lists or other coordinating bodies with varying degrees of official sanction etc, these are all widely known
America is in the middle of a second Mormon Moment. For our Cover Story, Bridget Read reports on how the women of Utah blogged and posted their way into our hearts and wallets. tinyurl.com/484awp7j

In this story, there is a lot of support for trans people that you rarely see covered in the media unless they're being attacked. Businesses and individuals all standing up and saying 'I will not be a part of this' and I think that needs to be highlighted because it can feel lonely out there.

This is something the Nazis used to do to Jewish children in the camps. It happened to a man I knew when he was a child in Auschwitz. The camp guards thought it was funny as hell.
On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

In our current electoral system, a vote for Labour is throwing your vote away. I don’t like it anymore than you do, but anyone serious about stopping Farage is going to have to suck it up, do the strategic thing and vote Green.

at the risk of being cringe or whatever, the making of Threads was a political act by CND people whose purpose was to puncture any sort of ignorant nationalist optimism about nuclear war & foreground the stakes in detente and disarmament for policymakers present and future
Threads director Mick Jackson has expressed worry over the upcoming remake’s focus on finding “hope even in the most challenging of times.”

“That one phrase worried me,” he tells Empire. “Hope is not part of nuclear war.”
