"Let's not take the soul-sucking path of sacrificing the most persecuted for that which we deem to be most popular. I know that there are transgender children right now looking out at this world and wondering if anyone is going to stand up for them and for their simple right to exist. Well, I am."

"When politicians start talking theology, Christians should be on high alert for distortions of their faith that serve the interests of the powerful."
from me in Sojourners: the Augustinian order of loves Vance says is the basis for his preference of citizens over immigrants is in fact one of the many threads of Christian theology that condemns this administration’s vile anti-migrant stance sojo.net/articles/opi...
Wait. What Does Vance Think Augustine Said About Love?
If the vice president is interested in Christianity's teachings on compassion for migrants, he's in for a surprise.

it feels like such a sick joke to watch the richest man in the world run a "Department of Government Efficiency" and brag about cutting federal spending when literally any amount he cuts—no matter how large—could easily be paid *by him* for literal pennies of his net worth

The Treasury Department right now. People are turning out against Musk and DOGE staging a takeover of the Treasury’s payment system. This crowd is big. The whole block is packed. “Lock him up,” everyone yells.

it's soooo funny that the price of eggs was one of the primary examples of "economy is doing bad" during the election and as soon as Trump took office we got hit with the highest egg prices ever. like I don't even know if he can be blamed for the avian flu thing but dawg that's just poetic

the one thing giving me hope amid all this anti-trans legislation is that the community will finally have a powerful ally, JK Rowling, on their side. ya know, because she famously said she’d march with them if they were ever discriminated against. let’s get this march started!

All I can really say at this point is if everyone isn't watching how trans people have lost basic rights and protections on a scale that hasn't been seen in decades in the span of 72 hours and realizing that even if you aren't trans there's nothing stopping it from happening to you, you're a fool

this is the correct advice for the moment. be a loud, material supporter of the trans people in your life.
It's hard to know what to say or whether it's even worth adding to the doom - what I will say is buy your trans friends' weird zine, their album, their art game - buy them a beer or a soda or a meal - give them some ko-fi money for doing absolutely nothing. We gotta protect trans kids and adults.
