In a just a world I should be able to sue Vance for stating publicly that I was part of a conspiracy by open society to smear Charlie Kirk because it resulted in harm to me including death and rape threats and so on but that is not how our law works.

Of course they have. But when they can do it publicly it adds a new level of danger for the critic and they know that. People who have already been radicalized can be motivated to go after those people using mass comms that didn’t exist during the Nixon or McCarthy eras

Btw this is one of the biggest reasons why it’s not as easy as people think to start up independent newsrooms or just be an indie journalist on substack. If you are actually holding powerful and rich people to account, you WILL need legal representation. Not a matter of whether but when
I say that as someone who has started newsrooms from scratch sometimes with two people - if you’re doing your job correctly you will need a lawyer because the first thing rich people do when you write something they don’t like is threaten you legally. It’s cheap for them and expensive for you

People like me are being driven out of society, meanwhile this is what my congressman is spending his time on.
"porch piracy" is theft. it's illegal in every single state. in states with expansive statutes, this could even be burglary. there is no evidence that local police or prosecutors are unable to handle this. and existing federal law on interstate transportation of stolen property can handle big cases.

Sex and gender aren't discrete and independent. The idea that we change our gender, but can't change our sex, is a transphobic canard with material social consequences for our rights. You get shit like "HRT validates trans people at a molecular level" instead of "Wow, HRT changes your sex". yea dawg
Like, to emphasize, we *don't need to know anything about how sex develops* to understand that people develop sex, and any physical development that has two outcomes, has to have a distribution of times to resolve, and outcomes which are indeterminate. It's not-even-physics except "continuity lmao".

Every time I hear "what about Iran", I remember that snippet of Najmabadi's book on this topic, where she interviews either a cleric or doctor who tells her "These scheming manipulative gays are trying to convince us they're trans so that they can get married, but I'm wise to their tricks!"

The definition explicitly only refers to the nonmedical removal of genitals. The only extremely rare surgeries performed on trans teens are top surgery. Breasts are not genitals and these are performed for the treatment of gender dysphoria, not cultural practice.

I'm begging people to pay attention. They are going to argue that cross-sex HRT causes changes to the vulva that constitute harm under the definition of mutilation in anti-FGM laws. They can make this case because anti-FGM laws define mutilation in an incredibly broad way.
