I press buttons to make lights on a box change. Sometimes the lights are all wrong so I have to press a lot of buttons much faster.

surprised to see Virginia voters give a broad, bipartisan mandate for two bullets to the head of former Republican Speaker Todd Gilbert. but that’s the clear message voters have sent

"I became a Nazi in prison to avoid something worse" is both completely understandable and an indictment of the US prison system, where certain types of violence are not only considered "normal", but openly joked about (even by those who consider themselves enlightened / reform minded).

Not great!

Very happy to have jumped on the “never us-east-1 if possible” train; nothing like waking up late on a Monday and finding out that a) the AWS/the internet has been on fire for the last 10 hours and b) we are totally unaffected

Now if only Datadog was in the same boat…

It’s really funny because of course “surely the prior engineers solved this in a systematic and generalizable way” [opens box] *a RATATOUILLE rat is frantically puppeteerting worse spaghetti code than you have ever seen, it briefly pauses to flip you the bird* is the archetypal engineer experience.

I don't think dating apps would use the traditional metal/gem ranking systems. Maybe flowers?

"My friend lost some weight and went from Lily to Carnation, but I'm hardstuck Dandelion"
yo hold up you're telling me I can be hardstuck in the dating apps too?
Gotta pay if you want any filter or message functionality at all. Most of the people who DO swipe on you are blurred out, behind a paywall.

A quasi-elo rating system puts you into ranked classes. The algorithm ensures you see only people one class above you. Those who see YOU are one class below.

What is the worst highway onramp in Dallas, and why is it the one from the DNT to I-35?

Let’s all hate the I-35 on-ramp on the Dallas North Tollway

Car insurance going up 57% in 2 years feels unsustainable - no accidents, claims, or tickets, bought new, less than 7000 miles driven (not per year - total!)

I know driving an expensive foreign car doesn’t help but holy shit.

Remove all flair.

Black uniforms for everyone in every service.

Center mass rank.

Slieve years in service.

Nametapes.

Collar devices right collar branch. Left collar job.

High 3 medals.

That's all. That's max dress silliness. Every work uniform is less.
They went on Fred's Place (an internet forum for Coasties, back in the day) and complained about it, to which the aviation community started calling anyone who supported them getting permanent wings, "Former (or "Fantasy") Aviation Gunners."

So, this discourse has a long precedent.

Guard units cannot deploy this rapidly. These are not active duty units with full-time soldiers. These are people with jobs, students and even elected officials. They all have outside obligations. Thay's why there's a ton of coordination that goes into deploying a Guard unit outside of state lines.

I'm glad the right is starting to lose culturally but go look at what these guys were saying after Jan 6 and to a lesser extent, after Roe was overturned

These guys will support Vance, DeSantis, or even Trump again in 2028, or at the very least will prefer them over supporting any Dem in 2028
“I voted for none of this."

Prominent influencers, including Theo Von, Joe Rogan, and Andrew Schulz, are starting to distance themselves from the president they helped propel to the White House.

Can you guess where this is parked?

Just kidding! It’s a Cybertruck in North Texas, you already knew it’s directly outside a bar.

My new toxic work trait is that I will mute you for everyone without warning in meetings if you aren’t talking and there’s background noise.

I do this whether I am leading the meeting or just listening. I’m so tired of the “hey someone has noise coming in, could you mute yourself?”

Ulbricht’s network may not have distributed lots of fentanyl (due mostly just to it not being as commonly intentionally dealt back then), but he’s definitely responsible for supporting and fostering the habits of tens of thousands of drug users that ended up falling prey to fentanyl later.
On one hand, not smart of Harris to call Ulbricht this given fentanyl took off a few years after he was arrested in 2013.

At the same time, I don't think "I didn't help distribute fentanyl but actually it was other drugs" is a particularly effective argument for Ulbricht.
