This is very true. It's wonderful how much archive BBC material has been made available lately, but why go to the expense and effort of restoring it and clearing it for broadcast but then not bother to promote it or even explain what it is?
Dear BBC Archives...

A letter to thank you for Mañana, the Ibsen collection and more,
to express my disappointment at how in certain ways you fail to treat these precious fragments with proper respect,
and to suggest how you could do things better.

Dear BBC Archives... - Illuminations
In a way, you’re spoiling us – and we’re grateful. ‘Us’ being the nerdy types fascinated by television’s deep archive. For so long, because of rights restrictions and a general lack of interest, telev...

I like both these people, so I’m not throwing shade, but I laughed at Charli XCX in her fabulous Wuthering Heights dress, stood next to Martin Clunes. You can move to LA, you can write hit songs and define a summer with your most experimental work, but you can’t escape English Sunday evening TV.

Streaming isn’t the enemy of physical media. Shelving movies by label is.

This is very good. It’s about drama, but what it says is true even more for comedy, which travels worse, struggles for international co-funding, and used to boost its budgets using physical media sales.

Why things are in a mess, anyway.

They figured it out. I can't believe they actually solved how to do it. And all they had to do was just... make the goddamn Muppet Show!

I just wrote the date down. It can't be "2026". That's not a real year. That's a science fiction year. It's part of the title of a second hand paperback by Clifford D. Simak or Theodore Sturgeon speculatively bought by me in a shop near Moorfields station in 1978.

Very late to the game but this month I finally completed the Lucie Miller range of BF stories and consequently got to know Tamsin Drew. No spoilers - it may be new to others too - but what an interesting story arc she has.

Forgot to watch my pick for this! But it's the last day of January so that's fine...

I picked The Runaway Bride - could have been Donna's only story but turned into a whole lot more. This feels massive, a fast chase turning into hugely enjoyable sci-fi bonkers. Just right for Christmas.
