Not inaccurate but probably still controversial...
I don't think it's controversial to suggest that the way that Ireland has developed a particular culture around the Presidency doesn't exactly look particularly republican. We would have handled a constitutional monarchy just fine #aras25 #speirgorm

this thing hides posts it judges as ‘rude’, by some US standard. Thereby silencing most of the conversations in Ireland and Scotland, at least.
Wondering why no one likes your posts anymore, even among your friends? It's because @jay.bsky.team and team have decided to hide a huge amount of content from all of our feeds by default.
Here's how to turn it off.

This says so much about us, dazzled by a speck of melanin
My favourite Hiberno-English-ism isn't any of the obvious ones, it's the fact that when we say "sallow" we mean the opposite of what everyone else means. It's not sickly yellow, it's healthy, positive

This is brilliant. We need this here too, we need Irish leftie losers #speirgorm
I've seen this go by a few times on TikTok now and I have to say, I love this idea. We need a way to convince people to keep running even if they don't win, maybe building the loss into it as a troll move is the secret.

The book-banners are organized. This is not trivial.
If you were ever wondering what we're up against, this is a website book banners created to train people to get books banned in their own communities.
I found my kids' school in here, and the books this website suggests I get banned from their library.

Always better when @philipb-h.bsky.social is subbing but, of all the problems with Ireland's immigration system, an extended bit on returning emigrants' driving licenses (of all things) seems...cursory? Lots of hoopla regarding the recent R1 presenter shuffle, zero about *producers*.

It's worth reading Mary McCarthy's 1986 review of Atwood's "The Handmaid's Tale." Not for how she misjudges its achievement but more for what McCarthy, a brilliant writer and intellectual, couldn't see—and to judge how far America has come since then. #Skystorians archive.nytimes.com/www.nytimes....

For those keeping count, Simon Harris "took to social media" to decry the shooting of Charlie Kirk the following day. He's gone cycling today, apparently.
'Member all the Irish wankers bemoaning "political violence" when Charlie Kirk was murdered - has anyone seen if they have anything to say about the attempted murder of women and children in the Drogheda IPAS centre?
No?
Funny, that.

You can really hear the emphasis. "The sesame is VISIBLY, DYING."
This one was addressed to someone, I'm pretty sure, but I hope you enjoy it regardless because the writer is clearly frustrated and it feels it'd be so relatable to anyone who's had to write one of these type of emails.

Shanawdithit's canoe and map, a short🧵: Shanawdithit was the last Newfoundland Beothuk, after Europeans hunted her people to extinction. Captured in 1823 and knowing she was dying ofTB, she spent her last years making artefacts to memorialise her people. I revisited her exquisite model canoe today 1

Firstly, an Irishman criticising ecocomic migration, seriously?!
Secondly, "know deep down" here means calling them bogus asylum claims, and thats a fucking outrageous thing for a Taoiseach to throw into an already volatile situation.

"What you’re looking at here is economic migration, primarily, and basically, people shouldn’t come to Ireland if they know deep down that they’re not going [to be granted asylum].” - Micheal Martin on Thursday.
You may as well have lit the touch-paper yourself, Taioseach.

I condemn in the strongest terms the deeply disturbing incident at the IPAS centre in Drogheda. To put vulnerable families, including young children, at risk is abhorrent and has no place in our society.
Our thoughts are with those affected by this horrifying experience.

There was a concerned note of caution in 'Uncle's' introduction, as some of the children writing in to the debate were a bit too enthusiastically *pro* beating 😶
Reading a 1911 'children's page' in an Irish newspaper, where children were invited to write in with stories, artworks and opinions. The weekly essay competition was on 'Winged Insects' and the weekly debate was 'Should children be beaten?' 😬
