I’ve concluded that men (and some women) think pedophiles prey on small children and that men grooming and raping teenagers aren’t pedophiles. They think these teenage girls are consenting to this activity or are actually to blame for it. I hate this reasoning, but find no other answer.

I am calling upon the people of Ireland to immediately begin construction of a thread on this site about how you or someone you know was roasted for a fashion choice. We need it.

All roasts must have come from Irish people *only*. Please respect this important rule, it makes a difference.

For non-Irish: The show premise is that Tommy Tiernan (the dad on Derry Girls) doesn’t know who his guest is until they appear.

The chat with Ireland’s outgoing president, Michael D Higgins, is beautiful.

I made the kid watch it to study how Irish people can dance across registers.

1. This is a thread on freedom, and how easy it is to lose.

Over the past 2,000 years in Europe, there have been few periods and places of freedom. For much of the time we lived under highly oppressive tyrannies of various kinds, whether small or grand, local or imperial, secular or religious.🧵

This is brilliant. We need this here too, we need Irish leftie losers #speirgorm
I've seen this go by a few times on TikTok now and I have to say, I love this idea. We need a way to convince people to keep running even if they don't win, maybe building the loss into it as a troll move is the secret.

Regarding the rightward turn FG & FF are taking on all kinds of immigration, here's a piece I wrote Nov 2019 on far-right rhetoric entering mainstream Irish politics.

"This is a pattern: extreme rhetoric is heard, listened to and begins to seep into mainstream politics until it becomes part of it."

Disagree. Showing that it can be done has an exhilarating effect on the whole "it can't be done" mantra in other political conversations around the world.

As we say in Irish: "impossible" is just buttered possible, baby...

GRMA @dublininquirer.com fort this
There's been a great deal of debate about how safe Dublin city centre is, but when we @dublininquirer.com looked for data to resolve this, we couldn't find much useful – so we commissioned a survey to try to add some facts/data to the debate. Today we've published five articles about the results. 1/

Remember - if it's OK to call @paulmurphy.pbp.ie et al "far left" or "hard left" for saying that people deserve homes and basic services, then it's entirely OK for you to call politicians "far right" and "racist" when they try to blame a housing disaster they created on immigrants.

They say it was because the disposables are littering the place and children are using them. Yet it is cheaper for me now to buy disposables that it would be for me to purchase liquid for my non disposable vape. And charging the tax on non nicotine liquid?

There are lots of misconceptions about e-cigarettes and vaping. Here are some of the most common myths, and the facts based on scientific evidence and data.

Banning disposables would be a health measure
AND an environmental measure (hugely polluting, look at Belgian attempts to ban)
AND a fire safety measure (causing regular fires for refuse companies)

But sure let's fuck the responsible users
#finegeal #fiannafail 'logic'
Not a tax based on health benefits but to replace revenue from tobacco sales.

I went from 20+ cigs/day, to 18mg, 12mg, 6mg and now 3mg liquid. The cost of my 2x10ml liquid/week goes from €10 to €20.

Disposables, stronger & favoured by kids, go up €1-2 each. Banning those would be a health measure.
I support taxing vapes, banning disposables outright, mandatory plain packaging and making their sale dependent on a licence - a much stricter regime than the current one.

I'll try to explain again why the recently introduced vape tax is irrational, counter-productive, and in some cases harmful🧵

Vape sales should be licensed as cigs and booze are. Plain packaging should be mandatory. None of these things are being done.

What the government have done will not make much difference to casual vapers, but will push quitters back onto cigarettes. /

This tax adds €5 onto all of those bottles, regardless of strength. So it removes the incentive to step down, and actually penalises you for doing so. As bottles costed from €2 in a discount shop to €8 for the priciest, bottles are now doubling, or tripling in price.
