You need to temper and steel your hate just as much as you need to feed and grow your hope. To both sing Hallelujahs and shout their perfidious damnation. There is no moral arc of history but the one we bend with our own bare hands, together.

For those who don't know, state republicans are taking inspiration from the Great Divorce of Saint Louis in 1876, the infamous decision to split STL city from STL county that was, quite literally, entirely motivated by segregationists who wanted to funnel their taxes away from freemen schools etc.
A new proposal in Missouri's legislature could make Jackson County the first county in the state to be split in 150 years. It's spurred by a Republican lawmaker from eastern Jackson County, but elected leaders are skeptical that it will gain traction.
Will Missouri kick Kansas City out of Jackson County?

The morons have zero ability or desire to actually see people as individuals when it doesnt align with their interest or feelings. Its all reactionary nonsense.
Super cool and awesome that “Democrats” means
* D elected officials
* D elected officials, but Manchin-ly
* professional D staffers and officials
* billionaire donors
* small dollar donors and activists
* people who vote for Democrats

It would save anguish if people just indicated which they mean

God bless the martyrs. We must walk in their light ❤️.
Today I am thinking of Rev. Jonathan Myrick Daniels, an Episcopal seminarian who was shot and killed protecting a 17-year old Black girl from a shotgun blast in Alabama. I took this photo of an icon of him at an Episcopal retreat I went on last year. The deputy sheriff who murdered him was acquitted

what are we called to do for our equals?

Alex Pretti was also murdered protecting an innocent woman. There will be more dead and more martyrs. The wheat will be separated from the chaff and it shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrah in the Day of Judgment than for these false Christians

“The badge can’t be a shield to hide behind when accountability comes knocking. It can’t be a wall of silence and inaction protecting the mighty from the people’s justice. It’s a shining burden you carry into dark places where those who wish to do harm to others hide.” really great writing in here.
“After weeks of kidnapping, murder, and terror, it’s clear that their mission is not law enforcement, but the enforcement of these fantasies upon the flesh of any vulnerable person of color they can find, or any person at all who stands up to them.” www.liberalcurrents.com/the-badge-is...

As @jamellebouie.net notes, even if Trump weren't already illegitimate by virtue of the Fourteenth Amendment's Section 3 prohibition on insurrectionists holding office, he would be illegitimate now for his "long train of abuses and usurpations" making him "unfit to be the ruler of a free people."
Our best mainstream commentator spends a minute with the instruction manual. “Good enough for Fredrick Douglass, good enough for me.”

Even knowing what he was going to say it was well worth my time.

Snap elections, confidence votes, proportional representation, so many boring electoral mechanisms that I wish we had in this country
the snap election is one of those boring ass electoral system design elements that turns out to have immense political implications
It just now strikes me that the United States, unlike every other democracy in the world, has never ever ever had an early presidential election. This seems like a problem? Like you need to have an institutionalized path for designating an entire administration illegitimate and voting for a new one?

Abolish ICE is the moderate position now.

What's even better is to dissolve the entire Department of Homeland Security, a big mistake we made 24 years ago in the post-9/11 panic.
