My blog posts are like children to me, I can’t play favorites. Did I say children? I meant chickens - equally stupid & only so varied in flavor. But here’s a few examples of the breeds I cooked up in 2025, in case St Peter asks you. We had…movie reviews! anthony-is-writing.ghost.io/i-actually-l...
I Actually Liked Opus! A Lot!
A rare movie about music journalism and fictional superstars that does the absurdity of both justice.

Amy Rigby’s Diary Of A Mod Housewife turns 30 this year! If you weren’t there, or were there and forgot, I’ve written a playlist post in tribute to her work over the decades, which only grows more resonant as I accrue my own bullshit to deal with. anthony-is-writing.ghost.io/how-i-like-a...
How I Like Amy Rigby: The Playlist
Paying tribute to 30 years of cynically romantic post-punk country-rock solo singer-songwriterdom from a one-time mod housewife.

I don’t plan on seeing Heated Rivalry, but as an ally of LGBTQ+ and horny straight women of a certain age, I’ll be sure to share pics of the Heated Rivalry donuts coming to the artisanal themed donuts store in town. Right now it’s animal crossing, high school musical before that.

I’d love social media terminology that suggests a sentiment without requiring multi-tweet explication. responding to good news with “onward!” would make clear that it’s not time to party with Ewoks as the credits roll, but saves lectures for when people actually act like the war is over.

Part of the absurdity of social media is that, beforehand, it would be perfectly understandable to kick back, laugh and enjoy a drink tonight, going without saying that the work continues in the morning. But on this endless trough, a minute of good cheer can be mistaken for complacency.
I totally get the impulse to yell at people to keep the pressure on, and it's right, but if Bovino really has been sent home, that's a significant victory for the protest movement. Let's not understate it.

I'm not saying anyone should be complacent. Just notch the win and grimly move on.

I just Shazammed a year old shoegaze track at Ralph’s, WTF. Followed by “London calling,” which is more like it. Gen X hipster flattery im used to in supermarkets, but something vaguely indie 90s that’s actually modern no that’s not the vibe.

Before speaking with two armed men at the Pretti vigil last night, a man approached & asked if I was going to tell the truth. I said yes. He told me how frustrated he was at the media & the harm it’s causing to his community.

I asked if he wanted to share words for the media on camera, & he did:

America vs the Plot to Enslave America
An insane, perfect encapsulation of it all:

The same day Trump’s agents kill a Veterans Affairs ICU nurse in broad daylight, the CEOs of Apple and Amazon join Trump to watch a private screening of a film about his wife directed by an alleged sexual abuser who was seen shirtless in the Epstein Files

I keep thinking “my god the people they’ve killed seem like exceptionally good folks” and I think the lesson there is that they’re not exceptional, but that wonderful people abound and that a baseline distrust in humanity is a shitty conservative trope that privileges power over collective strength
you don't become a martyr because you were a saint, you become a saint because you were martyred
I agree that we can’t make Alex Pretti a Benedictine monk because that’s a trap, but we can talk about the good things we did because people will see and hear them and think “I do those things too”

On the lighter side, I just realized how much The Guess Who and Limp Bizkit remind me of each other. Passionate vocalist mixing sexual frustration, proud class identification and career/celeb meta with campy commitment, fronting pitied guitarist and good musicians. “American Woman” = “Nookie.”

For a decade, Trump has shown that no one with power really wants to rock the boat by challenging capitalism’s freedom to dehumanize. and as long as you don’t concede or resign in shame, you won’t be punished. The adminstration’s lies are, at best, psychotic dares to prove them wrong.
The lies are so extreme they must be intended only for the other liars

Rubio “made noise” against Trump in ‘16 by seeming cannier and being willing to debate dong size. Now he’s Trump’s Secretary Of State. A politician daring to meet ugly with ugly might seem necessary to get attention, but it’s just a hollow clickbait slapfight without real values.
