Weirdest PDX city finance story I’ve seen (in a decade and a half of living here) just keeps getting weirder
The Portland Housing Bureau (PHB) is sitting on $106 million in unspent funds, far more than was previously reported. City Administrator Raymond Lee outlined the funding in a memo Friday afternoon.
Update: Portland Housing Bureau's Unspent Funds Reach $106 Million
News of the unspent money comes two months after city councilors learned the city's Rental Services Office amassed $21 million in revenue, which went unreported for months.

Surely there are fully-funded artist retreats for game designers, somewhere. I just need two weeks of uninterrupted thought and work. Ideally in Portugal? I’d take Belgium, Argentina, Korea… lesser countries too!

This is a good bit and would have done numbers as recently as 2019
It’s so cool that every art has its specialty. Animation represents dreams, fiction does thought, film does superheroes, and so on

Animation can and should cover every range of experience, but its evocation of dream logic is unparalleled among any other art

Philidelphia DA Larry Krasner warns ICE: If an agent commits crimes in Philly, I will charge you. You will be arrested. You will stand trial, and you will be convicted in state or federal court and you will do your time. Donald Trump can't pardon you for a state court conviction.

Is this true? I wouldn’t have thought so (and this tminstituteldf.org/advocacy/cam... suggests otherwise) but are there additional limitations when the situation involves federal actors?

Neysa McMein's "Games I Like to Play" (1934) documents her own games, e.g. her murder game, and games of the Algonquin Round Table, e.g. Alexander Woollcott's murder game variant. A pretty uncommon text, this might be its first complete digitization 🧵 1/

I can't put into words the feeling of watching our government, a hive of evil antisocial filth, the absolute worst humanity has to offer, colliding with the best. Ordinary people trying to help each other, risking everything to stand up for what's plainly, unambiguously fair and right. It's unreal

I’ve cleaned up so much in my life. Stopped drinking, no pot, spent months working out and getting full nights of sleep and eating healthy — and I feel like shouting from the rooftops, hey everybody!! I made these changes and it has led to no discernible difference in my life whatsoever!!

We’ve seen this in Chicago. Now we’re seeing it across the country.

ICE is a lawless secret police force and must be abolished. This is fucking horrific.
Absolutely horrific details about an ICE shooting in Minneapolis.

A witness says a woman was trying to drive away from an ICE operation and the ICE agent "reached across the hood of the car and shot her in the face like three, four times."

Bovino was there.

The entirety of Twin Peaks s3
Given that apparently the Stranger Things finale was meh (idk, didn't watch it, just the scuttlebutt) and we're not that far removed from the disastrous GOT finale that retroactively made everyone have never cared about the show:

What's the *best* ending to a show you've ever seen? Quote/reply etc

It's worth reading the whole interview in full. It basically verifies that the NYT has spent the past decade-plus doubling down on top-down narratives for coverage, getting more intense over time.

Sulzberg personally picked & chose whom the news apparatus would target and whom it would kiss up to.
In this in-depth interview Billie Jean Sweeney — a former editor at The New York Times — details how the paper shifted towards openly promoting anti-trans hatred, why this was directed from the very top, how some staff pushed back and the immense damage done by the NYT legitimizing bigotry.

Secretly recording a podcast that will only launch after the first year or two is in the can, because a good party needs to already be mid-swing before guests show up. Sad paradox but true
