7. Here, there's a lesson here for demand-side folks: Foreground values!!! B/c let's be real: Demand-side folks are far too anchored to technocratic & scientific wonkery that most folks just don't give a fuck about. It's a reason the demand-side focused Inflation Reduction Act lies in ruins.

Something I see a lot of folks missing in discussions about what's happening Venezuela, particularly around oil, is the role U.S. oil majors' interest in Guyana—and the threat Venezuela posed to it—has in all of it. Explainer here: drilled.media/news/guyana-...
The U.S.-Venezuela-Guyana Oil Triangle
The U.S. interest in Venezuela isn’t just about the oil there, but also about the oil next door in Guyana, and the U.S. oil companies that have staked their future on it.

The Trump administration rejected recommendations from an advisory committee to honor Frederick Douglass and the woman suffrage and Civil Rights movements, replacing them with coins that feature pilgrims, the Revolutionary War and the Gettysburg Address.

New coins marking the United States' 250th anniversary begin circulating this week. The Trump administration tweaked the design of some coins and is considering a dollar coin featuring the president.

DC does not have a triumphal arch, despite all its other Roman architecture, because they are an imperial and not a republican symbol. They became reserved for the Caesars, and the Arc de Triomphe is a monument to Napoleon. If this dumb thing gets built, the only acceptable course is to demolish it.
Congress should stop this.

Also, if Trump wants to enjoy an imitation of the Arc de Triomphe done in a style and at a place congenial to him, he can visit the Arch of Triumph in Pyongyang, completed in 1982.

Trump says construction of the ‘Triumphal Arch’ to begin in ‘2 months’
The monument would be a centerpiece of the White House’s plans for America’s 250th birthday.

Feels like an invitation to show how historic preservation can guide a sustainable & inclusive future NYC. First @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social announces he’ll be sworn in in an unused 1904 Guastavino-designed subway station & now this shout out to documentary heritage via NYPL’s Schomburg collection.🥰

At this point, I don't think there's any excuse for artists concerned about the fate of American democracy to accept or honor Kennedy Center bookings. But I do find it funny that one of the only interesting things on the spring schedule is Robert Ward's operatic adaptation of Miller's The Crucible.>

really tired of these reports that treat Trump's magical thinking about the "National Garden of American Heroes" as reality.

Here's another example, from USA Today.

DSA thinking often misses the potential of heritage to make sustainable & inclusive cities exemplified in UN SDG 11.4 — maybe @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social will open that door?!

“‘a monument to a city that dared to be both beautiful & build great things that would transform working peoples’ lives” 💚
EXCLUSIVE: @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social will be sworn in as mayor on midnight on January 1 inside the old abandoned City Hall subway station, saying that he sees the venue as a symbol for the aims of his upcoming administration.

* Vehicle traffic: -11%
* Foot traffic: +3.4%
* Storefront vacancy: -0.9%
* Pollution: -22%
* Revenue for mass transit: $548M

So YES this has been a huge success.
