I actively avoid calling people on bikes “cyclists.” It fuels an “othering” or “us vs them,” and makes it easier to claim that safe infrastructure is for a small in-group. None of which is helpful.

It may take more characters in a post, but I just say people on bikes. Because that’s what they are.

"Sustrans" as a name for this cycling/walking org has been in existence for 42 years, so changing to a word salad is quite a bold move. Some have said it's because of the "trans" bit. Possibly, but because charities are not subject to FOI requests it's likely unprovable.

Some say they don't exist and are mythical.
A figment of transport activists fevered dreams perhaps.

Nope, a toucan across a busy dual carriageway that changes within a few seconds of pressing the button is real.
ALL crossings should be like this one.

A mum was pushed into a canal by a man walking his dog as she cycled to work.

This didn’t happen in a vacuum; it’s the result of years of anti-cyclist messaging that treats people on bikes as fair game.

We say we want more people to cycle, but ignore what it’s like for the people already doing it.

Amazing how most of the replies here are talking about "lawbreaking" cyclists but the only person in the video who has done wrong is the bloke who (a) had his dog off the lead on a shared path and (b) PUSHED A WOMAN INTO THE CANAL!
IIRC there’s quite a lot of interesting research in this area. The impression I have is that actual collision injuries are (very) rare, but pedestrians feel extremely threatened by close approach from a moving bike, and you get a fight-flight response.
