MPLS - THIS IS SUPER IMPORTANT. Here's the public comment I just left if you need inspiration (a thread):

I write to you today about my concerns with the Charter Commission's move to limit the oversight abilities of the City Council in confirming City Charter Officer Positions.

1
Tell the Charter Commission how you feel about that, either in writing, or in-person at their meeting on Dec. 3 at 4 PM. The legislative branch has an important role in confirming department heads, just like in the federal or state government.

It's nice to finally have a council member I like, these days, after so many years of Reich. I'm glad Payne was re-elected.
We are proud of our slate of endorsed candidates in Minneapolis who have all won their elections! Congrats to you all.

In Ward 1, City Council President @elliottpayne.org won re-election!

It's election season in St Paul. Every few years the whole town gets together to debate the pressing political questions of our time -- Is a small business an autonomous nation? Do garbage cans have rights? If I'm rich enough, do I own the street in front of my house?

This is exactly why so many disabled patients are terrified to go to the hospital.

Terrified to give up autonomy and control to those who would mock them for clicks.

The utter disrespect for our lives is too common within the medical system.

One of the things that will happen as this administration begins to see small victories slip through their fingers is that they will try to intimidate harder and louder to get people to stop fighting back.

Breast cancer diagnoses rose by over 300% between 1973 and 1992.

Was there a breast cancer epidemic?!

NO.

Mammograms were implemented for screening in 1976.

PREVALENCE is a function of being able to correctly diagnose something.

This is also about autism.

so my favorite dive bar in WI passed up showing tonight’s Bucks game so they could show live poll results. when the election was called for Crawford, the whole bar started chanting, “Fuck El*n”. the bartender pulled out the good stuff and handed out free shots to us all—an absolutely electric nite

Oooo, I need to play this game again. I'm so glad I randomly picked it up off a video rental store shelf when I was younger.

Today in "utterly unsurprising news": "Eichorn’s arrest on Monday came hours after he and four other Republican senators introduced legislation to designate 'Trump Derangement Syndrome' as a mental illness."
GOP leaders call on Sen. Eichorn to resign after arrest for allegedly soliciting a minor
Bloomington police say state Sen. Justin Eichorn, R-Grand Rapids, was arrested around 6 p.m. Monday for allegedly soliciting a minor for prostitution. House and Senate Republican leaders called for Ei...

Kennedy’s op ed looks like it’s going to be the call for parents to vaccinate their kids that public health leaders issue during measles outbreaks. But the text — which is full of coded messages — doesn’t match the headline. www.statnews.com/2025/03/03/r...
As RFK Jr. delivers his message on measles, public health experts hear a familiar tune
The standard public health approach in a measles outbreak is a full-throated appeal for vaccinations. RFK Jr. is working from a different playbook.

The "WHY ISN'T AMERICA PROTESTING RIGHT NOW" takes - even from Americans! - really show how many people are programmed to believe the only "real" action is mass protests. Even with the constant stories of town halls & locals fighting back, people dismiss it because it's not "big." That's a problem.

It’s wanting to abolish Section 504, wanting to cut Medicare, wanting to get rid of DEIA, wanting to stop people working from home. All of this will kill disabled people. When we tell you that pandemics lead to fascism, this is what we mean. When you excuse our deaths, these policies are pushed.

History is repeating itself.

There were more LGBTQ people removed from government during the lavender scare than were suspected communists during the red scare. They only really taught the latter in history classes.

Yep. I grew up in a Klan State -- just look up some of Indiana's history re: the KKK in government. We sure didn't learn about that shit in Indiana public schools, though.
These progressively zoomed-in maps identify places in the US that had an active chapter of the KKK between 1915 and 1940. You'll note how it wasn't just a Southern thing at all. Full data can be found here: labs.library.vcu.edu/klan/
