I’m resisting tagging several BlueSky friends of a certain age™️. We know who we are and I sincerely hope this treatment lives up to its promise.

LOL! True!
kind of darkly funny that "gender studies" is the stereotypical "useless degree" because gender studies will help you understand a large and important chunk of the current psychosis in american life

What in the Gestapo is going on in Grand Rapids?

Watch this activist get arrested *mid-interview* for speaking out against U.S. action in Venezuela.

I agree and agree with the OP’s point, but I think they are different points.

It’s easy to fight systems of oppression and forget that building just systems is also important, and vice-versa.

I also agree personal injury is a weak foundation for collective action.
some identify publicly with the left because they hate oppression, others because they hate being oppressed. things will make more sense when you keep in mind that these are not the same - or even similar

You know the US is no longer a liberal democracy when Hungary comes to our defense.
It seems Hungary is blocking even the mildest EU criticism of the US military intervention in Venezuela.

Explaining to my son the reason we’ve been telling him to cut his hair is not that we are old-fashioned.

In fact, it’s hard to compose a selfie when his thicket is obscuring our friends and family. 🌳🌜

The Republican Party are now Trump’s Personal GeoP. 🙂
New euphemism for "bottomless corruption and naked abuses of power" just dropped

1. Calling our opponents cockroaches is simply “Republicans have no agency” but with extra steps.

2. “Call them cockroaches, they aren’t human” is literally our opponents’ message. What are we wishing for here?
the reason people sometimes act madder at democrats than republicans when republicans do impossibly evil shit is the same reason why, if you hired an exterminator to handle a roach infestation and he showed up to feed and play with them instead, your first instinct wouldn’t be to yell at the roaches

So like they’re essentially trying to instantiate a spheres of influence world, right? With a major power at the head of each, and let’s call them for lack of better terms, Eurasia, Eastasia, and Oceania?

This data series is awesome. Consider the continuity and curation necessary to capture and understand a 125 year monthly trend. 🙌🤯
These extreme tides only occur when perigean spring tides, perihelion, and an onshore storm surge all line up. The all-time record is 2.8 feet on 1/27/1983.

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

There should be publications, or at least individuals involved with publications, who should specifically apologize to him, not as a politician, not as a former president, but as a person. They slandered a person as part of a Russian intelligence operation. They should apologize for that.

just so it's clear: this is the exact core function of genAI

Fascist government and climate deniers love it because it can produce the aesthetics of knowledge without any actual tendency towards truth. It is automated denialism.

Shame on every climate scientist promoting its use (there are lots)
Bob and I were among the hundreds of researchers that were supposed to conduct the 6th U.S. National Climate Assessment. Now it looks like they're gonna produce it with a few people and Grok? Communities need rigorous and accurate information about climate change. This will put communities at risk.

We are *all* Real America in the same way a naturalized citizen who took his oath five seconds ago is exactly as much of a citizen as someone whose ancestors came over on the Mayflower.
Another good practice for the New Year would be for all the non-fascists in America who want to opine about politics to really begin believing that urban America is Real America & that its denizens are The Authentic People. Get some self-respect & drop the volkish nationalist view that they're not
And I think liberals should stop taking the bait and ceding ground on immigration.

Immigration is good. Multiculturalism is good. Free trade is good. Stop being embarrassed to say so.

And if a medical professional put out the Ai-summary of an analysis of a cardio health they should lose their license.

(2) There's no winning anyway. If she had some cheap Shein shit the story would be about how they're sweatshop shoes instead of fully traceable supply chain shoes (like these are).

No, and we don’t really either. Bugs Bunny, Captain America, and Spider-Man are all New Yorkers and as American AF.
Do other countries have this weird notion that you’re not a “real” representative of the nation if you live in an urban center? Like do the French say Parisians aren’t really French? Are you considered not a real German if you live in Berlin? Or is this mainly a weird American thing?

This station was designed by Raphael Guastavino—a contemporary of Gaudí. It’s still used when the 6 trains do a u turn after the Brooklyn Bridge.

“Can’t believe NYC elected a Muslim as mayor.”

In truth—a Black American Christian woman swearing in a Ugandan American Muslim of South Asian ethnicity as his Syrian American wife holds the Qurans he swears in on, all while standing on the steps of a subway station—is the most NYC thing imaginable.
