Just learned that in Isan, Thailand, Western foreigners are called “mangoes” and I can’t say I really mind that.

Whenever I see this come up, it reminds me of Twitter on Jan 6. There was the expected shock and outrage and a few jokes, and one little corner of LawyerTwitter going “Oh no you morons, stop incriminating yourselves!!!”
i’m gonna just watch this at least once a day and i recommend everyone do the same

If you're ever told to be outraged about anything having to do with health insurance and the sole source of the outraged framing is the American Society of Anesthesiologists, just move on because you're being played like a fiddle by the major cause of out-of-network balance billing
Read a little bit more about this, and goddammit we're getting played you guys. The original link from the ASA is very dishonest. They are moving to the CMS standard for anesthesia billing. In other words, they are going to pay the same way they do for Medicare and Medicaid.
This is not to defend Anthem in any way, but that viral article about anesthesiologists is published by their cartel. There's a reason it's one of the highest paid specialties, and why a very common surprise medical bill is for an out of network anesthesiologist on an in-network surgery

I remember seeing Sweet at on a convention panel once, and there was a lot of talk about inspiration and what kinds of work artists like to do, but he was all "Nope, don't care what it is. You pay me, I'll paint it."
Artist Darrell Sweet sf-encyclopedia.com/entry/sweet_... died on this day, so here's some of his cover art. 1st: 'The Game of Fox and Lion' by Robert R Chase; 2nd 'A Case of Conscience' by James Blish:

In a rare alignment, the First Sunday of Advent *is* the first of December, so the “Advent” calendars are actually accurate this year. One less thing for me to annoyed about.

Until next year.

Here at Bluesky I’ve collected a bunch of lovely SF/F folks who generally don’t like religion, a bunch of Catholics, and a bunch of random strangers that seemed interesting.

I will now feel awkward about posting absolutely anything.

One way I've found to add variety my feed is to follow non-Americans. Then I hear all about their crappy politicians instead of just my crappy politicians.

Nobody’s sure why my new baby immune system decided to attack my, uh, head, but steroids seem to have settled it down for tonight at least. I’m still a mess but grateful for what reprieve I can get.

Of course my sleep schedule is a joke now. Hello, Europe.
