I think they're both great in the film, but Del Toro and Penn are such a fascinating study in subtlety versus excess. Del Toro centers every one of his scenes with this puckish comic timing that makes you love Sensei Sergio, while Penn presents Lockjaw as a posturing lunatic from the jump.
a thing I am happy to have been wrong about is saying in late September that Benicio Del Toro’s performance in One Battle After Another was probably too small in multiple senses to get much traction in awards season

God it was lovely to watch Heated Rivalry and see a TV show using sex (good sex! not miserable, punishing sex that everyone hates!) to advance the story and character development. storytelling through sex is so fun and so good when it's good, and there are so many ways to fuck it up. I love romance.

I like to live in this bubble where I think that all the shitty parts of caring for my parents are going to be better once it's not 2025 anymore. And it works mostly until I'm trying to go to bed and then my brain is like "So, here's five awful things you're going to have to deal with next year."

The Gothams were so fun with a lot of interesting, offbeat winners and then it was just such a letdown with OBAA winning Feature. It's going to dominate this season. Let something else win at the freaking Gothams.

I think my parents hit their 70s, found the TV station that seemingly plays Gunsmoke 24/7, and decided that’s the only channel they ever need to watch.
