(Extremely) apologetic fangirl. I might have lost on Jeopardy, but at least I made it there. She/her/hers
I understand they are ruffles, but it looks like a bunch of clams around her neck

There is no better comedic scene in all of The West Wing than the Butterball Hotline scene

Movie #8- Sound of Falling

Had this been my first movie and not my last movie, I might have connected with this more. As it was, it felt miserable and reminded me of The Virgin Suicides without the humor.

Movie #7- The President’s Cake

The premise seems like it’s going to be this lighthearted romp about a child trying to gather ingredients for a birthday cake, but it’s actually a devastating look at living under authoritarianism.

Movie #6- The Testament of Ann Lee

This is easily one of the best movies I have seen all year. I loved how narratively sparse it felt. Instead of a traditional biopic, it felt more like a character study of this profoundly religious woman. I wanted that final scene to continue forever.

Movie #5- Resurrection

This is something I am so glad I experienced in the theater, because I know I wouldn’t have gotten the same out of it at home. This was truly beautiful to look at and it went so far over my head. I needed guidance to fully understand it all.

Movie #4 - Hamnet

This was one of my most anticipated films of the year, and it largely lived up to my hopes. The love story was too rushed at the beginning, but the core message of grief and trying to make sense of it hit me so hard.

Movie #3 - Palestine 36

This film was absolutely brutal to watch. It was exceptionally well made and acted about a part of history that I shamefully don’t know much about. But for a two-hour movie, it was so dense with history and violence that it was hard to always stay fully engaged.

Movie #2 - Calle Malaga

This was such a charming character study about an elderly woman fighting for the right to continue to live in her home until she decides she is ready to leave. She opens an underground cafe. She falls in love. She just keeps to get living her life and it’s truly beautiful.

Official #DenverFilmFestival movie thread:

Movie #1 - My Father’s Shadow - There is something so compelling about watching a historical moment through a child’s eyes. Focusing on the 1993 Nigerian presidential election could have been a basic drama, but instead we get this beautiful memory piece.
