IMO, colleges can either start clearly and effectively articulating the value they offer to students and employers that AI can't, or they will be replaced by shitty, but very affordable, AI simulacra of higher ed.

Since the dawn of information technology - literally the Gutenberg era - tech entrepreneurs have been trying to convince people that their new way of delivering information would be killed if they had to actually pay for the information they were making money delivering. My take: we need better language to differentiate bt different uses of AI/LLMs. “Generative AI” is somewhat helpful but I don’t think we’re there with it. I don’t want LLMs writing my books or creating my art. I DO want AI using huge healthcare datasets to figure out how to diagnose cancer earlier
There are a lot of critiques of LLMs that I agree with but "they suck and aren't useful" doesn't really hold water.
I understand people not using them because of social, economic, and environmental concerns. And I also understand people using them because they can be very useful.
