one of the complex legacies of Pope Francis is that he publicly said a lot of very ugly things about ‘gender ideology’, but had personal friendships with a lot of Catholic trans women who felt really supported by him. Leo welcoming them publicly feels like a promising sign. I am EYEING HIM CLOSELY
NEW: Pope Leo XIV will share a meal this Sunday with Alessia Nobile and four fellow transgender Catholic activists, during the Vatican’s Jubilee of the Poor — marking the most significant public encounter shared between a pope and the trans community.

I cannot begin to properly articulate how upsetting it is to have had people baselessly accuse trans people of being groomers and pedophiles only for it to come out that they were deliberately doing this as part of a project to provide cover to actual groomers and pedophiles in positions of power

Really difficult to overstate the fury one should feel that the GOP and institutions like the New York Times went all in on transphobia as some mortal threat to women and girls while covering up something like this.
When you read these Epstein emails, you start to understand why so many prominent conservatives are obsessed with checking the genitals of children. It's a big thing for them!

Predictable but still amazing to watch people who spent literally years accusing every librarian, teacher, and trans person they could find of sexually grooming children suddenly throw themselves in with "actually it's ephebophilia"
Megyn Kelly: "I know somebody very close to this case…Jeffrey Epstein, in this person's view, was not a pedophile…He was into the barely legal type, like he liked 15 year old girls…He wasn't into like 8 year olds…There's a difference between a 15 year old and a 5 year old."

I dunno but if you’re feeling defensive about NYT taking heat for decades of feigning ignorance on Epstein, maybe sit in your feels and reflect. Because without any public whipping at all @jkbjournalist.bsky.social went at the story head on and now we’re here.

Given how eager the NYT seemed to want to run stories about emails, or about what Mamdani attended at college... I feel that the best case interpretation of this is that while you went into it genuinely, your organization and colleagues were content stonewalling you for leads and other information.
The emails that you’re seeing now are news in themselves, but that’s because of how they’re coming out—a congressional committee released them—& the context in which they’re being viewed. A guy emailing a reporter talking about old girlfriends or saying someone is “dirty” is not a whole news story.

New York Times social media guidelines prohibit expression suggesting partiality on things like ICE, execution of foreigners in fishing boats, or whether law is a thing.

However, tipping off notorious serial pedophiles about other reporters is absolutely fine.

As of this morning, Starbucks workers across the country are officially ON STRIKE. And we're prepared for this to become the biggest and longest ULP strike in Starbucks history.

Say #NoContractNoCoffee with us: DON'T BUY STARBUCKS for the duration of our open-ended ULP strike! $SBUX

This isn't politics anymore. This is morality, and the dismantling of the Patriarchy....these nasty, disgusting men, AND the tratiorist women who support and defend them must be exposed and removed from public discourse for the safety of all of the women and children of the world.

man we need a way to say "the moral rot and depravity of this country's elite must be burned out of it with cleansing fire" that isn't wildly reactionary-coded

Wild how every single member of the political and business elite went into full drooling fascism the second the prospect of consequences for abhorrent behavior started to seem possible
My takeaway from every new Epstein revelation is that some powerful people victimized many powerless young women, many more knew, some actively enabled it--and we're still being told that MeToo and accountability for sexual violence have gone too far

YEAH, THAT'S RIGHT! I HAVE WRITTEN A NEW ARTICLE!

this one's a bit weird; rather than doing my usual "trying to organize my thoughts and building a winding case that builds on itself," I decided to show you what my EARLY article creation process looks like:

docseuss.medium.com/some-loosely...
some loosely organized thoughts about dialogue sysin games
think of this as me trying to find out what parts of dialogue choices are load bearing game design and what else can be done with dialogue.

I'm not overly surprised that Carney is actually a piece of shit and just helps reinforce a feeling that the political elite are in cahoots.

Feels an awful lot like Labour in the UK who had huge support because *NOT* doing right wing stuff, and then once in power doing a bunch of right-wing stuff.
The idea of CRA “lean[ing] into AI to free up staff resources” should be setting off some red flags. Other departments are being forced too.

He’s cutting “development funding for global health programs” and funding for public transit. Cutting back on Statistics Canada seems so short-sighted too.

End of a lengthy thread (so easier to scroll up and read) but saw a few people I know and trust and are also outraged at the current moment.

Note that while he states some impressions of things, there is often subtext/caveats of "if the Dems use this appropriately" which we're all skeptical of rn.

The thing about the "I voted against this" position Schumer is taking is that either he is trying to mislead Dem voters by implying he didn't support reopening right now, or he has no control over his caucus.
