Welcome Newskies! I'm a former biologist, zoologist, behavioral ecologist, and ornithologist (which one I use depends on the situation). My favorite part of research was writing up the discussion at the end, so I jumped into #SciComm and now write about other people's cool scientific discoveries. 🧪

Get your holiday shopping done right here #NewSkies, alot of incredibly talented artists have moved to Bluesky because it does not suppress links to their work. Check the #SciArt or #ArtSky hashtags and feeds and I'll add a few faves below.
It's a dark time for artists. Many are struggling!

It's easy to buy gifts online. When you buy from *artists*, you're supporting working people, instead of making rich jerks richer.

This fall, send your present $$ to an artist's shop!

Please, PLEASE, I am begging you as both a parent and someone who is sick of all this THIS, go vote for your school boards. Even if you don't have kids, that's how these reactionary dipshits got their feet in, that's where the book bans and library cuts start.

If you've gotta have a car, EVs rock, especially if you charge at home. Nebraska has cheap electricity; I literally pay $4 to charge my car.
After about 2 years, electric cars become more environmentally friendly than their combustion-powered counterparts, according to research comparing emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases from the two vehicle types. cen.acs.org/environment/... #chemsky 🧪
Pollution from electric-battery production mitigated by longer car use
Despite environmental costs from obtaining lithium to produce batteries for electric cars, gasoline-powered cars cause at least twice as much environmental damage over their lifetime
