Trans woman (she/her)
Pinned
Hello, my unemployment assistance has run out and I've had no luck finding a new job after getting laid off. If you can afford to help a trans woman stay housed and make ends meet for another month, please send something my way.

This is genuinely insane, I clicked to see the years expecting the low part to be 70s or maybe 90s but its 2015!!!!! The entire anti trans panic is a decade old
a stat i always cite is the number of anti-trans articles in the press went from 60 in a year, to 7,500

honestly to everyone who's like "no she should be in the senate first and then run in 2036" I have a lot of reasons I disagree with that idea but one of them is definitely "why do you think AOC with an extra decade of Senate Brain would be better than AOC now"
anybody currently raging about Newsom needs to be stopped better get on board or I might think your outrage is a tad performative

amazing how yet another round of "you have to promise you'll vote for the shitbag years in advance" reveals itself to have nothing to do with strategy and pragmatics and everything to do with "i am scared and anxious and everyone on the internet needs to promise me everything will turn out alright"

I'm just now learning for the first time that Lisa Murkowski was first appointed to the senate by her father to fill the vacancy he created when he was elected governor and I just have to say: what the fuck

my 2028 primary take here is that if AOC makes a serious run it's hers to lose because I think she will be able to most credibly channel the rage of the primary voters
You know a politician is thinking about running for president when they start making moves on foreign policy: AOC will be headed to the Munich Security Conference and will speak in Berlin with a member of Germany's Social Democratic Party.

Andy Kim refusing to allow Phil Murphy to coronate his wife has actually destroyed one of the most entrenched machines in American politics.
the story here, which Kornacki gets right, is not exemplified in Mejia leading

it's that she's barely beating Malinowski who, while not a leftist, was an anti machine candidate who faced down an absolute money cannon of negative ads from DMFI and the machine

the *machine* lost here spectacularly

I love democracy. I love the radicalization of Evelyn Normielib.
the voters of a rich suburban district outside New York City just voted for a Sanders/AOC-endorsed labor organizer who wants to abolish ICE

this is why we're going to win, just in case it wasn't clear. they can buy every media outlet and fund every court case, but at the end of the day, cis people are increasingly chill with trans people as they increasingly have trans people in their life who they love and cherish. we're inevitable.

one of the key motions of protest is that it places the adversary in zugzwang: either they abide the protest, and look weak, or attack the protest, and look cruel

many people are going to be tempted to say this proves the weakness of peaceful protest. this is incorrect because it assumes this happening is a failure of peaceful protest rather than the mechanism by which it succeeds
It's hard to overstate how ell-organized the portland march that got gassed was... organizers made the crowd promise to be peaceful, said the march would slow in front of the ICE building but not stop, that we would stick to one chant (ICE Out). They did absolutely everything right and got gassed.
