While we’re at it: if you’ve already stopped buying from Amazon, good. If not: maybe knowing that the company intends to obscure the scale and source of price hikes you will pay, so it can curry favor with Donald Trump, is the nudge you need.

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:

Every single Democratic governor and attorney general needs to do this -- if only to make it clear to voters *right now* that the firings and funding freezes that are about to hurt their states badly are the work of Trump-Musk in Washington.

Get ahead of this now, or get blamed for it later.
Arizona AG Kris Mayes, New Mexico AG Raul Torrez, and Oregon AG Dan Rayfield will begin holding Community Impact Hearings — a national series of townhalls "to hear from the public about the impact of federal firings and DOGE funding freezes across the country."

The first will be in Phoenix March 5.

I ask students to write about their first encounters with civil rights history for their first assignment. Of course, they often talk about MLK and Rosa Parks, but I also receive a lot of critiques (from mostly white students) of their education systems for barely discussing the movement.

So many smart people seem to believe that higher ed. should be job training, explicitly. The rise in business (undergraduate) majors is one byproduct of such a perspective. And watching universities cut humanities is another.

I find this approach incredibly shortsighted, and ultimately defeating. 🧵

There have been a lot of us historians who've posted something like this lately (I know @kevinmkruse.bsky.social did), even before the insurance CEO was shot. We're trying to warn you, billionaires and CEOs: history is pretty clear that unions and strikes are your *best-case* scenario.
The New Deal saved American capitalism (and capitalists) from far more violent scenarios, yet in their hubris and entitlement they've been trying to roll it back ever since. You want to bring back the days of guillotines or dynamite, hedge fund and tech bros? FAFO.
When things get bad enough, the people explode. The New Deal and Civil Rights reforms pressure valves were meant to keep lower class unrest from building up too much steam

But elites, arrogant from the relative peace and prosperity of the late 20th c., have been steadily dismantling both

I was reminded, yet again, that mental health is often neglected to appear "normal."

Normal is a cycle on the washing machine, not a life goal.
