i feel like the viral bus thread resonates because at every step of the way you're like "ok surely this will be resolved shortly, any second now," which seems like what all the passengers are also thinking. then the fact that the situation doesn't resolve and the bus just keeps going is an Allegory

jack asked if i would sketch up a poster to tell people in nearby neighborhoods about the partnership between flock and ring, and this is what i came up with. it can be printed on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper.

This is some of the best meta on the nature of online discourse out there. Mind you if someone comes for Pluto, I'm joining in.
The “Jupiter Greedy” discourse is quite literally sending me into outer space

Germany sends troops to Greenland.

Germany has seen this movie before.

They played the bad guys then.

They want a different role in the sequel.

So on @withouthistoryband.bsky.social's recommendation, I tracked down the essay "Necessary Golems" by sci-fi critic John Clute this morning.

And yeah, people need to read this, cause boy does it feel relevant.

As a sensitivity, editor for disability rep and ableist language, I just wanted to remind folks that we might never get things perfect because terms and language are always evolving. So we do our best. From my point of view, even as a reader, I can very often tell when authors write with care.

Needed to see this right when I saw it. ❤️❤️❤️ @mostlybree.kitrocha.com always
I'm gonna say this with all the kindness in my heart: you aren't going to survive if you don't let your life have room for other things.

This is not a short term fight where we can just go 24/7 and then it will be over. We've got YEARS ahead of us. Take a break. Hydrate. Go bake something. Breathe.

It’s funny how Wikipedia used to seem relatively unreliable, because it was written by regular people instead of encyclopedia experts, and now it seems relatively reliable, because it’s written by regular people instead of glib CliffsNotes robots
wikipedia turns 25 today! the last unenshittified major website! backbone of online info! triumph of humanity! powered by urge of unpaid randos to correct each other! somehow mostly reliable! "good thing wikipedia works in practice, because it sure doesn't work in theory" - old wiki adage

I need people who don’t live in the Twin Cities to stop telling people not to join massive Signal groups right now. People are doing it. They’re going to keep doing it. Give them good advice about it.

The actually practical advice is don’t say anything to 1000 strangers you wouldn’t say in public

Yes it could be argued that keeping up with world events is important but alternatively can I interest you in hugging an ancient mossy boulder that looks like a face and quietly listening while it tells you stories from centuries cloaked in mist.

I'd read this
ok free idea for anyone unless i write it and then its not: title "would you still love me if i was a worm", short story about a girl turning into a gigantic worm and not doing any of the useful feminine labor things for her boyfriend/fiance/etc anymore. also she gets really into dirt.
