Fascinating new paper: higher levels of SARS-CoV-2 in wastewater correlate with higher health-related absences from work.

"COVID-19 may have created a new year-round baseline for work absences that is similar to influenza season conditions before the pandemic," the authors write.

This cohort study examines the extent to which COVID-19 continues to generate work absences and decrease labor force participation beyond the pandemic period in the US.

Probably spammed people’s feeds by re-posting each post of this thread, and if so, apologies, but it really is a near-existentially important thread to me personally and millions of others.

And the BUT should matter to all as it shows, again, high-profile incompetents falling upwards in government.
ME/CFS is a devastating condition that has long been denied, dismissed, psychologised and underdiagnosed. Research is at last starting to catch up with it, with glimmers of hope for those who have been left untreated for so long.

The appearance of saving money, anyway.

It would have actually saved money to solve the problem. The costs incurred would have been turned into income years ago. In addition to the misery toll.

Quacks like Wessely save governments money the same way Musk's DOGE does: not at all.
