I write stuff and I read stuff, not always in that order.

Some concerns about the way things are currently are going.

The cats can literally sense when I finally get my shit together enough to start doing shit and that is the only time they care about me at all.

Anyway guess I’ll just keep lying here with this fluffy grey butt in my face.

RE starbucks picket line--the relevant detail is "picket line, do not cross." Pass that along. Proclaiming that you are in no danger of doing so because you are too aesthetically pure to let Starbucks coffee pass your lips is...unhelpful and does not give the impression you perhaps imagine it does.

Yes, everyone who is fighting fascism needs to be united in fighting fascism.

But the need to be united to fight fascism is the opposite of being united with people folding to fascism.

Anyway the cat is now sitting on me so there goes the rest of the evening I guess.

Cat just walked into the room and got jump scared by me quietly sitting in a chair.

Anyway I consider this revenge bc he does that to me at least once a week. (And by does that, I mean has the audacity to sit on his favorite rug)

CVS is best thought of as a kind of interactive museum exhibit where you can experience everything that has gone badly wrong with American capitalism.
You almost have to respect how CVS keeps frantically changing their systems like every other month and each time it gets progressively worse

I was wondering why the radiator won’t turn on and if we’re all condemned to freeze to death.

Anyway it turns out the radiator wasn’t on because it’s 59 degrees outside, down from a low of 63.

Clearly I am well equipped for winter.

I would like to once again plug the practice of putting your reps’ phone numbers in your contacts if they aren’t there already.

As a socially anxious person with poor executive function it is the only way I have ever gotten myself to call. Genuine game changer.

Someday I will no longer have to listen to Chuck Schumer’s voice on an answering machine.
But alas, today is not that day.

Mamdani will implement sumptuary law. Ladies will have to carefully measure how many ounces of gold are in their girdles, and wearing pearls on hats will be banned except for wives or courtesans of foreign mercenaries.

Just went on a cemetery tour and there was a gravestone with a giant bear statue on it.

I got so excited I tried to bypass the stairs but the hill was too steep so I fell and then had to crawl up this hill in front of like twenty people to get to the bear tombstone.

It was pretty good tho.

Also important to remember the Bechdel Test in a context of queerness. It’s also about how alienating it can be to consume media as a lesbian when female experience generally is so heavily framed in the context of men.
The Bechel Test was never a test of whether a movie is sexist; it’s a test of whether Hollywood is sexist.

Took me a minute to realize this is likely meant literally and not metaphorically but honestly I stand behind it in both iterations
when will a frankenstein movie be brave enough to let us see the doctor choosing the dick

Just listened to one kid explain to another what a radio is.

Anyway apparently a radio is when “the music is pre-scheduled.” Which, like, fair enough I guess?

"should women work" but it really means "should men have to ever answer to or even encounter women who are not their wives, offspring, and/or other servile figures"

The individuals who are the “deciders” of “what is (is not) fit to print”: AGSulzberger, Kahn, Ryan, Lacey, Healy, Kingsbury+ escape much-warranted criticism behind the institutional mantle.

We think NYT leadership needs to be named & shamed for their “product”.

Finally hung up my lantern after a literal year!

Planning to enjoy the next six hours before it inevitably falls bc I refused to let the command strip sit for a full day.

Can confirm that this is an issue. The worst part for me is that the kids are both often wrong and also better at identifying visual AI than I am.

Working to get better, obvi, but it’s one of my least favorite things I’ve ever had to learn as a teacher 😢
I spotted this on Mastodon and I find it horrible, not least for the speed with which this has happened.

A cutie patootie in my backyard, a young opossum. I don't know if this is the young one that was hunting frogs in the marsh; my trail cam has picked up two young opossums that like to hang around.

Me to everyone I know: can I share strong feelings about the Frankenstein movie I haven’t seen

Them: please not again

Me: how about zombies

Them: do you have a 3rd interest

Me: does Sinners count

Them: not really

Me: the thing is Victor Frankenstein is young & stupid so if you make him older—

The subway on Halloween night is one of the greatest things about NYC.
The music cuts off awkwardly before the end, but this is an incredible NYC Halloween costume compilation.

Even as someone skeptical about the city at large, Halloween in NYC fucking rocks.

Just walked by a tiny pumpkin astronaut, all three Alvin and the Chipmunks and a grown man dressed as Waldo whose friend walked up, hugged him, and shouted “I found you!” Literally the best.

Low key both Victor and Elizabeth are queer as hell and they just want to hang out and be friends and their parents keep shipping them and it’s the worst.

Justice for charismatic disaster twink Victor Frankenstein. He may be a piece of shit, but all the boys love him.
What really upsets me about interpretations of Frankenstein is that if you read the book it's really obvious that Victor doesn't actually want to fuck his sister-cousin and yet he also cannot see any way out of it. Nearly adaptations ignore this and make him lusting after Elizabeth,
