Two community members stand on the street corner of Central Ave and 18th St, watching over a local business in 5° temps with a wind chill of -15°. They are patrolling the area, keeping an eye out for ICE activity, doing what they can to protect their immigrant neighbors.

If you've got funds to throw our way, the below website is a great place to start. I also repost fundraisers regularly as do other people on the ground. 🧵

And I fucking hate the caveats especially "NO CRIMINAL RECORD."

People who have criminal records ALSO deserve dignity. OK.

If you live in the Cities, an easy way to help immigrant families in hiding is: laundry! Laundromats are ICE magnets, so people without washers need help.

The People’s Laundry will drop off laundry to your door to wash and dry and pick up a few days later:

This is 100% correct and the EU should do it immediately.

The USA will break if a bunch of entitled Americans suddenly can’t book get-aways in Paris.

Great piece overall— would add as an addendum that it's very informative who the US does *not^ encourage to rebel against oppression— the Palestinians, Lebanese, Egyptians, etc.
my new piece in FP: The US keeps telling people to rise up against their regimes, then leaving them to die. Hungary, Iraq, Syria...now Iran? I try to offer an explanation for this very consistent pattern. (gift link) foreignpolicy.com/2026/01/16/t...

May the next American revolution be born in MN. ✊✊ In 10 yrs I want to be able to take historical tours thru the streets of Minneapolis with cosplayers in their hand-knit hats, cell phone cameras & crocs.
Folks, if you know any Minnesotan, you'll know that many of us will bring up Minnesota and Minnesota things at every possible opportunity. If we manage to ride out military occupation, we're going to be absolutely insufferable for the next 20 years. Think about what you're risking here.

This summer, I took myself to the beach for two days & wrote a letter to my fellow educators about “AI.”

My mom asked to read it; I told her, “Not yet. Let me get another draft done.”

Welp.

I should have let her read the first draft because she’s not here to read this one.

5,000 protestors and 500 state security personnel killed in a few weeks is a lot.

And there’s a good chance the number of protestors Iranian forces have killed is decently higher than that.

No one knows where this will end up, but it’s very serious unrest, deadlier than some armed conflicts.

Niche rant incoming, Buddhist one ☸️. You may not be aware your bear is a Buddhist. I studied formally a lot in my 20s, but now my practice is very private & personal. I was blessed to have smart, somewhat curmudgeonly-in-a-loving-way teachers, which is why I am comfy with the following complaint. 🧵

I've reached my lifetime quota for "interesting times." Give me bland times. Boring times. Normie times, one could even say. Times that are both dull and unexciting. Load me up with times that feel stale and uninspiring. That's the good stuff right there.
