US librarians tackle ‘manufactured crisis’ of book bans to protect LGBTQ+ rights

The Trump regime repeatedly lied to Congress about their intention to pursue regime change in Venezuela. They didn’t get Congressional approval for regime change, but did it anyway.

Demanding a briefing in response is both pathetic and nonsensical. Calling for impeachment is the obvious response.

The entire world should, in fact, be condemning the USA for its actions right now. We should be capturing as much flak as possible for what we've done.
Just know that Americans themselves, too, are condemning what our administration has done. It's horrific and disgusting and our leader is scum.

A point that Wallerestein made often: as overall US power declines, it overplays its best card—military force. But each time it does so, it accelerates the decline of its overall power. SeeVietnam, Iraq. Violent coercion is the strength of the weak.

Trump and his cronies can try to dress this up, but it is an illegal act of war to replace Maduro and grab Venezuela's oil for his billionaire buddies.

So it's appropriate to arrest a world leader if you consider them criminal? You can just go get them? Just asking questions here.

Contemplative Heated Rivalry takes, a 🧵. Mild spoilers! All of these takes are premised with a strong endorsement of the show. Yes, the hype is justified. Yes, it will give you FEELINGS, perhaps complex & not entirely positive feelings. This is ok. 🏳️‍🌈

and good for them. it's working

Fam, I finished Heated Rivalry last night, and I fell asleep approx 2am expecting to wake up reveling & contemplating THE FEELS all day. Instead, I got ‘fuck this imperialist timeline.’ However! I’d like my praxis today to focus on the beloved fam. Some likes for some Heated Rivalry takes?

The only thing exceptional about this is how blatant it is, without even the pretense of manufacturing consent--because honestly, media outlets and congressfolk have shown our Empire no longer even needs an excuse.

And it's gonna happen again. Because what's been shown is a president can do that.
This is not the first US imperial atrocity for oil —let’s not exceptionalize it— but wow is is it awful. And the violation of Venezuelans domestically in the name of a sovereign borders they actually dgaf about.

As Aimee Cesaire put it— the price of imperialism is the empire’s own civilization.

When the US invaded Iraq based on made-up lies, Bush administration in full delusion said they will throw rose petals in our paths to greet us.

Instead 4,431 US soldiers died. As well as tens of thousands of Iraqis.
People are going to try and lure you into debates about whether Maduro was a good guy or not and the thing is, it doesn’t matter for the purposes of discussing whether violent kidnappings and extrajudicial murders by the US government are ok. No, they aren’t! End of convo.

A lot of people forget how in 2004 the Bush regime kidnapped the democratically elected President of Haiti, Jean-Bertrand Aristide, and dumped him in Africa.
Is there any modern precedent for abducting a head of state?

Plenty of examples of coups, assassinations and domestic trials, including show trials, but this is like a Crusader Kings plot.

i think that people really underestimate reality that

1) administration has no doctrine, it is really about a single, mercurial, and half-awake man

2) the administration is a constantly churning system with factions that rise and fall contextually

3) might not have happened if trump tower caracas
